Why didn’t you sell? – 2 players Spurs should have sold in January

Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are enjoying this season a fair amount – even though their title challenge looks over thanks to Chelsea.

Whilst the rest of the top clubs tipped for the title this season are all close together the Blues have flown away in the Premier League and now look almost certain to take the crown.

Indeed, Spurs look like they’ll have to settle for coming up short in the title race once again but our landlord thinks if they can finish in the top four that will still be a good season for them.

It’s of our landlord’s opinion, though, that the club could have got rid of some deadwood in the window to raise funds and so he’s a little shocked there wasn’t more outgoings from the club.

So, with that in mind, here are two players Spurs really should have let go in January…

Kieran Trippier

Trippier is not getting anywhere near the team and it’s not like he’s a young player that can bide him time either.

The former Burnley man had quite a good reputation when he joined Spurs but has seen that go out of the window with the ever impressive Walker around. He should have pushed for a move away and Spurs should have sold up, then, because they’ve plenty of young players to be used as back-up.

Kevin Wimmer

Kevin Wimmer has proven himself to be not good enough for Tottenham this season and should have been moved on.

You’d have thought that when Toby Alderweireld and now Jan Vertonghen have been injured that he’d get to play regularly but he hasn’t and that tells you a lot about Mauricio Pochettino’s opinion of him. He’s been poor this season when he’s played and should have gone.
