Why didn’t you sell? – 2 players Sunderland should have sold in January

Sunderland rolled back the years in this January window as their gaffer David Moyes went back through his previous clubs to bring in players that he’d already worked with.

Moyes hasn’t won over many Sunderland punters here so far at the Transfer Tavern and his additions will have to gain him many more.

Although they were active in bringing in players to the club, they missed out one vital thing and that is offloading players that aren’t featuring regularly or have no urge to play and help Sunderland to avoid the drop.

It’s been said for a number of years that if you don’t have players with the fight then you’re doomed from the off and there are certainly some like that within the ranks at the Stadium of Light. Not only that but they have a big squad and if they are to prepare for life in the Championship they must look to offload those who aren’t fit for the road ahead!

With that being said we really have to question why didn’t Moyes sell these two players before the January deadline…

WAHBI KHAZRI

This one will upset some of our Sunderland punters here at the Tavern after his heroics under Allardyce last season which ultimately helped them survive the drop.

However, something just hasn’t worked under Moyes and he’s found his time on the pitch limited much to the displeasure of many fans. But perhaps a move away could have brought finances to club which could have been a big benefit with it appearing funds were limited this window. Not only that but he will be getting the regular football he deserves.

SEBASTIAN LARSSON

Like Khazri, Larsson has a great reputation with the fans at the Stadium of Light but he also has found time on the pitch very limited.

At 31-years-old he isn’t getting any younger and it could be time for the former Arsenal man to find himself a new club. He’s been at the club for some time but he would have freed up some funds and wages that could’ve been used to improve areas of the team that needed it more with a fresh face at the Stadium of Light.
