It is safe to say that our resident Hammers fans in the Transfer Tavern needed many drinks to survive the rollercoaster that was the January transfer window.

In a pretty mundane transfer window, all the noise appeared to come from East London during a window that was dominated by the Hammers losing last season’s star man, Dimitri Payet.

Although Slavan Bilic moved quickly to replace the Frenchman with former Hull man, Robert Snodgrass, there is still some ill feeling towards Payet here in the Transfer Tavern with many of our punters going as far to have stuck his picture on the Tavern’s dart board.

The Hammers were long time linked with new Aston Villa man, Scott Hogan in this window but Bilic pulled the plug on the move, citing that he had too many attacking options.

This statement has lead our landlord to ask whether West Ham should have shipped more attacking players in order to make room for Hogan, begging the question – is quality better than quality?

Obviously with Hogan never playing in the Premier League, £15 million for his services would have been a risk but goalscorers are hard to come by – though Andy Carroll’s recent form may have made Bilic’s mind up.

Should West Ham let players leave in order to accommodate Hogan? Our landlord believes so – here are TWO players he feels should have left the London Stadium in order to raise funds for the Hammers……

Sofiane Feghouli

After making just two starts for the Hammers since his summer move from Valencia, Feghouli has struggled to make an impact on Slaven Bilic’s side during the first half of the season.

The main reason our landlord believes that Feghouli should have left the Hammers, is that there was reported genuine interest for the Algerian with Roma looking to take him on loan with the prospect of a £12million deal in the summer – not bad business considering Feghouli signed as a free agent.

It’s obvious to see that the loss of Payet meant that Feghouli had to stay but surely with the signing of Robert Snodgrass from Hull, Feghouli’s game time will still be limited.

There is no doubt among our West Ham punters in the Transfer Tavern that Feghouli should have been sold.

Alvaro Arbeloa

Another player linked with a move away from the London Stadium in January – a move for 34-year-old Arbeloa did not materialise and he will probably spend the rest of the season gathering dust for Slaven Bilic’s men.

In the current 3-5-2 formation played by Bilic, there is no room for full back Arbelo.

Our Landlord does not expect him to add to many appearances to his tally of two so far this season.
