A Spurs fan unable to watch the full 6-0 battering of Millwall on Sunday walked into the Tavern beaming with joy a few hours after the final whistle, so he was very confused to see some of his fellow Lilywhites in sombre mood around the bar.
‘What’s the matter?’, he asked… ‘Harry Kane might miss the rest of the season’, came the response. His face dropped and our landlord served him up a double measure of whisky to soften the blow.
The Guardian have already reported that the angle injury Kane picked up vs. the Lions might well end his 2016/17 early, which could have a huge effect on the team’s top four/title ambitions, with the England international their runaway top goalscorer with 19 in the Premier League.
One man doesn’t make a team, of course, but Mauricio Pochettino has little in the way of alternative options at White Hart Lane, with Vincent Janssen his only other orthodox centre-forward – his goal vs. Millwall was his only one from open play since his switch to Spurs last summer!
Desperate times call for desperate measures and some fans have taken to Twitter to call for Dimitar Berbatov to be re-signed. The Bulgarian remains a free agent after leaving Greek side PAOK last year, meaning that he could be snapped up and added to their squad as a short-term option…
Ross, #Spurs fan.
‘Instead of Janssen why not Berbatov? He’s still available on a free.’
Would you like to see him back at The Lane? pic.twitter.com/0B2BeSDarP

If Kane’s out for the rest of the season, what about Berbatov who’s a free agent #couldwork

However, not all Spurs supporters are sold on the languid 36-year-old…
Berbatov playing under Pochettino is not freaking happening people. Get serious. #THFC #COYS
