Southampton fans at the bar have been ripping into Mirror journalist, John Cross, for comments he made regarding the next manager at St Mary’s. Cross took to Twitter to voice his opinion that Mark Hughes should be the next man in charge of the south coast club, also saying the club’s squad is too good to go down.
I think Mark Hughes is a very good choice for Southampton. Far too good a squad to go down.

These comments from Cross have led to a number of Southampton fans ripping into the Arsenal fan as they clearly don’t want to see Mark Hughes take the managerial hot seat at their club. The manager’s job at Southampton became available yesterday as Mauricio Pellegrino was sacked by the club’s board as they hang just one point above the drop zone in 17th. The decision was forced upon the board after their dismal showing during Saturday’s 3-0 drumming away at Newcastle.
Mark Hughes has been strongly linked with the role, despite being sacked by Stoke last year with the club in the relegation zone and being knocked out of the FA Cup by League 2 Coventry City. Whilst fans of Southampton don’t want to see Hughes anywhere near the club, with only eight Premier League games remaining they have to act fast if they’re to keep their Premier League status going into next season.
With that in mind, here’s our resident Saints’ verdict:
Bad journalism mate. No team is far too good to go down. Look at West Ham squad is quality but just in a mess. Hughes isn’t a decent manager either

There have been many teams down the years too good to go down and all got relegated

Another manager who he failed to adapt in the last 5 years, same as Pulis, Allerdyce and Pardew. The time really should be up for this bunch.

Southampton fans should be careful what they wish for ….another pointless headline from John ……
