The treble-treble is on. Scott Brown is already a history maker at the famous Glasgow club, but with 90 minutes standing between himself and three straight years without surrendering a domestic honour to any of Celtic’s rivals, the Parkhead captain is an icon. One day, and one day soon, he won’t be at the club, though, and a replacement will be needed.
The Hoops already know that with Brown getting on a bit at the age of 33-years-old he won’t be lifting silverware at Parkhead for much longer, but if he is to go out on a high then surely the high of a treble-treble is the best possible exit. In his place, The Daily Record claims that the Bhoys have already been looking for midfield reinforcements and that Rekeem Harper could be coming in from West Brom.
Harper is a teenaged West Brom midfielder for those who don’t know, and nothing will convince the Bhoys of how good he is and how they should sign him more than the reaction of the Baggies who will be desperately trying everything they can to convince him to stay at the club. The Championship is one thing, but winning trophies in Scotland is a whole other world, and Harper certainly has what it takes.
Born in March 2000, Harper is yet to sign a new deal with the Baggies and has also been looked at by Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur and Championship winners Norwich City. Throw into the mix European constants Celtic and there is a real entourage of clubs who are willing to take a punt on the impressive Harper, who racked up 30 appearances in all competitions for West Brom.
If Harper is to replace Brown then he’ll need to take to life at Parkhead quickly and learn what things are like in Scottish football. When West Brom were relegated it meant that Harper would get more chances in the Championship, and the less glamorous surroundings of away games to Wigan and Rotherham will have done a lot for Harper’s growth as a player, something that will be handy if he ends up at Celtic.
