Many Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have lauded the Molineux atmosphere after a post from Tim Spiers suggested that a game from the 1996/97 play-offs against Crystal Palace had the best atmosphere since the stadium was rebuilt.
This comes as the journalist for The Athletic shared a tweet from the Midlands club’s official page celebrating a fine goal from former player Mark Atkins on the 14th May of that season.
Spiers described the place as feral on that day, whilst many Wolves supporters chipped in with their own thoughts. The post also sparked a debate as to what has been the best atmosphere at WWFC’s ground, with suggestions like the FA Cup win against Newcastle United back in 2003 being thrown about.
Other games mentioned were the play-off semi-final against West Bromwich Albion in 2007 and against Manchester United in the FA Cup last campaign.
Nevertheless, these Wanderers fans lauded their stadium atmosphere, with one supporter describing it as ‘electric’ on that particular night in 1997:
Yeah this atmosphere was unbelievable. Definitely the loudest in my almost 30 years of going down the mol. The passion from every single person in that ground that day was intense

Agree, best atmosphere in the new(er) Molineux. Was like Jotas goal vs Utd but for 80+ mins. Noise was incredible

comfortably imo, absolute cauldron that night, especially as the teams came out, fortunate that there have been so many great atmospheres to choose from in the last 25 yrs, most clubs would struggle to find more than 1 that match Molineux in full voice

The noise after that goal was incredible, but such a sad end !!

Certainly up there. The noise was incredible and relentless. Bitterly disappointing outcome though. Conceding again at their place just after Jinky had scored killed us.

Definitely, the ground was shaking, the Liquidator was still in full flow then

My Dad went to his first game for about 15 years that night. And last ever in the end. (Registered blind shortly after) He couldn’t believe the atmosphere. Veteran of the Honved and Dynamo games. #wwfc
