Wolves: Omar Mascarell on Nuno’s radar

Premier League side Wolves have been linked with a move for Schalke midfielder Omar Mascarell.

It has been reported that Nuno Santo’s men could end up landing Mascarell on a cut-price deal, with the player seemingly destined to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

Wolves could bag Mascarell for a cheap price

A report from Spanish outlet AS has given an update about Mascarell’s future at Schalke. It says that while he is waiting until the end of the season to make a decision about his future, he could well decide to leave Schalke at the end of the campaign in case of relegation.

Wolves have enquired about the midfielder, who has started to consider his future because of Schalke’s dire situation – an offer of £4.3 million and Schalke could well be forced to sell the player.

Mascarell’s contract at the German club runs out in the summer of 2022 and he is currently valued at £6.75 million. He is a product of the Real Madrid youth academy.

Mascarell could be a smart signing for Wolves

Mascarell has a lot of Bundesliga experience, as he’s played for Eintracht Frankfurt as well. He can play in multiple positions on the pitch – central midfield, defensive midfield and even centre-back.

As things stand, Wolves have four centre-back options but Nuno has been happy to rotate players like Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saïss through both midfield and his back three, so Mascarell is exactly the type of player the manager would appreciate in his squad.

Mascarell could add depth in multiple positions and as the report suggests, he won’t be an expensive signing either, so the 28-year-old could be a sensible move for Wolves.

In other news, a Wolves forward could be sold in the summer – read more here.
