Wolves: Club right not to prioritise Ezri Konsa

Ezri Konsa

After a phenomenal seventh-place finish in their first season back in the Premier League, Wolves’ entry into next season’s Europa League will obviously put more, albeit welcome, pressure on the squad.

As a result, Wolves have been linked with numerous players such as Morgan Sanson and Salomon Rondon during the transfer window thus far, but one player, it seems, will not be on his way to Molineux.

The Sunday Times reported just a few days ago that Wolves were closing in on a £12m deal for Brentford defender, Ezri Konsa. Still, this has since been quashed, with the Express & Star reporting that he is not on the transfer list for Nuno Espírito Santo.

This has once again been reported by Sky Sports, who add that the 21-year-old Englishman is instead a target for Championship club, Fulham, rather than the Old Gold.

Strangely, it does make sense as to why Wolves aren’t thought to be interested.

Though it’s hard to deny Konsa’s talent considering the fact the Englishman burst onto the scene with Charlton Athletic, winning their 2016/17 Valley Gold Young Player of the Year award, also earning an U20 World Cup winners medal, the club are pretty strong in defence as it is.

Indeed, Wolves have already confirmed the permanent signing of defensive midfielder, Leander Dendoncker, who joined the club on-loan last season and, where they conceded just 46 goals, bettered only by the top four, they scored just 47, the lowest in the top 12.

Decision-makers at the club obviously rate their options high enough in that department to allow Kortney Hause to leave for Aston Villa on a permanent basis, after all.

Therefore, it makes sense that they won’t be targeting another central defender.

Wolves fans, what do you make of this one? Would Konsa be a good signing? Or should the focus be on the attack? Comment below.
