Rumoured Wolves transfer target Renato Sanches has suggested that he is 'ready' to complete a move to the Premier League - but it might not be to Molineux.

The Lowdown: Arsenal linked with Sanches move

Wanderers have been linked with signing the Lille midfielder in recent weeks, with Bruno Lage potentially seeing him as a January addition. Arsenal are also reportedly in the race to sign the 24-year-old, though, and he could be able to leave his current club in the January transfer window.

The £27m-rated Sanches' current deal at the Ligue 1 champions expires in the summer of 2023 but it appears unlikely that he will run his contract down in France.

The Latest: Sanches 'ready' for transfer

There has been an interesting development regarding the Portugal midfielder's situation, with Sanches telling L'Equipe [via Sport Witness] that he is ready to move on to pastures new, mentioning Arsenal in his comments but not Wolves.

He said: "Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know. I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling and which are not, but I can’t tell now. But I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me."

The Verdict: Potential blow for Wolves

Sanches is a hugely talented player who won the prestigious European Golden Boy award back in 2016, so it would be a blow for Wolves to miss out on a player of his calibre.

Granted, the Portuguese maestro has had plenty of injury problems down the years, never starting more than 16 league games in a season, but he could have offered Wanderers more quality in the middle of the park, having averaged 90.1% and 91.6% pass completion rates at the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020 respectively. By comparison, Conor Coady is Wolves' leader in this metric with 89.5% so far this season.

Sanches moving to Arsenal instead of Wolves would only help strengthen a direct Premier League rival at a time when Lage's men are sixth in the table and looking to join the big clubs in the race for European football. While there is still some ambiguity as to the player's comments, let's hope that Molineux remains a viable destination for him, even if other clubs were name-checked.
