Many Wolves fans have been left fuming as a transfer update emerged on Sven Botman.

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Tim Spiers has now said that the central defender had agreed to join the Midlands club in the summer window, but Lille would not budge on their asking price of £35m.

The Molineux faithful deemed the fee 'too expensive' and thus ended their pursuit of him.

Botman was a key player for Lille on their way to winning the Ligue 1 title in the 2020/21 season, playing in all but one game and helping his team keep 20 clean sheets in the process, while he himself won an impressive 4.9 of his duels per match and also averaged 3.2 clearances and 1.5 interceptions per appearance (Sofascore).

Considering that he is just 21 years of age, the Dutchman could have been a mainstay in Bruno Lage's team for years to come, and given that the Wanderers ended up paying £36m for Fabio Silva, they have shown in the past that they are willing to spend that kind of money for a young player with room to grow.

Wolves fans on Botman transfer update

These WWFC supporters fumed as the transfer update was shared on Twitter, with one even going as far as to claim that it was 'shocking':

"Shocking. We messed up on Dias a couple of seasons ago as we were too tight & now the same with Botman. He’ll end up at somewhere like City or Utd & be worth £80m this time next year. Instead Jeff relies on some kid from Porto who cost £35m & has achieved nothing - ridiculous."

"The exact same fee we paid for a scrawny 18 year-old striker with two first-team starts under his belt??!! You honestly couldn't make it up! Laughable."

"This is ridiculous! Let’s hope we try again in Jan ( which we won’t) as we’ll be short with Boly and Saiss going to AFCON"
