Wolves reportedly missed out on the chance to sign Jesse Lingard on loan in January, with the midfielder moving to West Ham instead.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side were beaten 3-2 at home to the Hammers on Monday night, as a frustrating season continues at Molineux.

Lingard played a key role in the visitors' win, scoring an excellent opener and laying on an assist, in what was an influential performance.

It means the 28-year-old, who is on £107,000-per-week, now has an amazing four goals and three assists in his last five league games, showing why he has returned to the England setup and leaving little surprise why Micah Richards hailed him as 'quality' on Match of the Day recently.

Wolves missed out on signing Lingard

According to Daily Mail, Wolves were interested in signing Lingard on loan from Manchester United in January, but West Ham instead snapped him up.

Tottenham, Newcastle United and Arsenal are also mentioned as potential suitors.

Transfer Tavern take

It looks as though Wolves missed a trick not signing Lingard, although in fairness, he would have felt like a gamble at the time, having barely featured for United for a long period.

If the England international becomes available on a permanent deal this summer, however, the club should consider making a move for him, given the energy and end product he is providing from the middle of the park.
