Wolves transfer target Sven Botman is wanted by Tottenham in the summer transfer window, according to a fresh update which emerged on Thursday evening.

The Lowdown: Wolves linked with Botman move

Wanderers ended up not making any defensive additions in January but one player they were linked with signing was Lille centre-back Botman, as journalist Luke Hatfield claimed Scott Sellars and co 'will still be keen' after their summer interest.

That comes following intense interest in summer 2021, so much so the player himself even commented on the links to Molineux.

The 22-year-old ended up staying put at Lille in both windows, however, and he has continued to shine for the reigning Ligue 1 champions, making 15 league starts this season.

Botman isn't without other suitors though - newly rich Newcastle were heavily linked too - and now another club has jumped in the mix for the summer.

The Latest: Spurs want summer transfer

According to The Telegraph, Spurs are eyeing up a summer transfer for the Dutchman, whose current Lille deal expires at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Antonio Conte sees him as someone who could strengthen his side's defence moving forward and will pursue a move for him.

The Verdict: Potential blow for Wanderers

The idea of Botman joining Spurs over them is undoubtedly a blow for Bruno Lage, even though he isn't short of defensive quality currently, with Max Kilman, Conor Coady and Romain Saiss so impressive this season.

The young centre-back has been a colossal presence for Lille in recent times, averaging 3.2 aerial duel wins per game in the league last season and a whopping 4.9 clearances per match this time around. He has been hailed as ‘amazing‘ by AC Milan director Frederic Massara.

At 22, he could be a long-term signing for Wolves, too, which is an added bonus, especially with Coady approaching 30 and Saiss already reaching that milestone.

Tottenham don't have much more to offer on the pitch than Wolves at the moment, but their willingness to spend big on the right players - their transfer record is over £50m and they have splashed over £20m on 15 other occasions - may prove a thorn in Wolves' side.
