The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are still delighted about their win over Swansea City yesterday.
Indeed, the punters propping up our bar believe things may not be as bad as they were made out to be over the course of the summer transfer window and that Rafa Benitez’s side DO have a chance of staying up.
Should they do so, skipper Jamaal Lascelles will surely be crucial to that. The 23-year-old proved imperious against the Jack Army yesterday afternoon, blocking a shot on the line before powering in a header late on that proved to be the difference.
So, the fact the club have reportedly opened discussions over a new deal for the former Nottingham Forest man has gone down very well this evening. A hugely popular figure amongst our resident Geordies, Lascelles sticking around for the long-term is all they want right now.
