The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Pontus Jansson has been included in Sweden’s 23-man squad travelling to the World Cup this summer. The defender has been one of the shining lights in a poor Leeds campaign this season and he’s now had his efforts rewarded with a place on the plane to Russia.

Jansson will be a part of the Sweden team that’s set to face Germany, Mexico and South Korea in Group F. The defender will be looking to make the most of his first ever World Cup with his country and will be keen to make a good account of himself after a disappointing club season with Leeds. After Russia, the commanding centre-back will probably be the subject of some transfer offers as Premier League clubs have been tracking his progress.
Leeds went into this season with a point to prove. The 2016/17 was bitter for The Whites, they missed out on a play-off place in the final weeks despite a fantastic season that saw Chris Wood top score the Championship scoring chart with 27 goals. Ahead of the 2017/18 season, Leeds lost Wood to Burnley, denting their promotion hopes. However, the fans still had high hopes of playing Premier League football and marched into the season, although now it’s clear how ill-equipped they were.

That’s because you’ve got a magic hat. Well done Pontus You deserve it.
