The Liverpool and Southampton fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern haven’t really been speaking of late after all the drama surrounding the Reds’ failed move for Saints skipper Virgil van Dijk.
It had looked at one stage as if the Dutchman was all but a Liverpool player until the south coast side launched allegations of tapping up and Liverpool publicly withdrew their interest in the 25-year-old.
The two sets of fans already had a fractious relationship here in the bar after years of the Merseysiders cherry picking the top talent from St. Mary’s.
Former Saints captain Adam Lallana along with Rickie Lambert, Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren and most recently Sadio Mane have all swapped the Solent for the Mersey since 2014.
So, when Anfield hero Daniel Sturridge took to Twitter to congratulate winger Nathan Redmond on his winning goal for England U21s on Monday evening, you can imagine there was quite the reaction.
Many fans took Sturridge’s note as a hint that Redmond could be the next to travel the well-trodden path between the two clubs…
Is he now gonna come to LFC?
