Arsenal are currently enjoying one of their best starts to a Premier League campaign for years and our landlord thinks that they have a genuine chance of winning the title.

The Gunners are currently second to Manchester City on goal difference after an eight-match unbeaten run, and have bounced back from a disappointing 4-3 opening day defeat to Liverpool.

A big part of Arsene Wenger’s side’s run has been the defensive partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Shkrodan Mustafi, with the pair conceding just four goals in the six league games they have played together.

The worry for Wenger comes if one of his key pair gets injured, with neither Gabriel, Rob Holding or the currently injured Per Mertesacker looking capable of replacing either of them.

Arsenal fans at the Tavern are talking this year up as their best chance of a title for years, but they are just one key injury away from it all falling apart.

Here are two defenders we think Wenger should bring in to stop that happening…

JONATHAN TAH

Wenger hasn’t got too bad a record with signing German players in recent years. Mertesacker – while inconsistent and currently injured – has looked unbeatable at times, while Mustafi and Mesut Ozil are key players in the current side.

With that in mind, Arsenal should perhaps look at snapping up the talent coming through the German ranks, starting with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah.

The 20-year-old has been one of the bright points in their inconsistent season and while he is still a little raw, he could turn into a solid defender under Koscielny or Mustafi’s stewardship.

FABIAN SCHAR

Should Arsenal want a bit more experience than the 20-year-old, they could do a lot worse than Fabian Schar.

The Swiss international would link-up well with Granit Xhaka and has an incredible record of six goals in 21 appearances for the national side.

Having a goal-threat in defence can be valuable over a season, as Koscielny showed with his late winner against Burnley recently.
