Arsenal make £100m “fighter” their top transfer priority

Arsenal have finally regained their status in the Premier League after an incredible season both domestically and on the European stage.

The Gunners won their first Premier League title in 22 years and became the first winners that weren’t Manchester City or Liverpool since 2017, as well as taking Paris Saint-Germain down to penalties in the Champions League final.

The summer transfer window will be an opportunity for Arsenal to improve and strengthen again to sustain the success they have worked so hard for over the last few years.

What are Arsenal’s transfer plans?

While Arsenal’s squad is one of the most well-developed in Europe, there is always room for improvement and it will be important to keep up with their competitors as they all look to strengthen.

Speaking at the beginning of this month, chief executive Richard Garlick revealed to BBC Radio 4:

“Our mindset is always forward, if you stand still, you go backwards.

“There’s going to be further investment in the squad. We’re not going to sit here and just accept winning one trophy, we want to win major trophies now and in the future.”

According to The Athletic, the North London club are keen to snap up the services of a left winger to bolster their attacking threat, a central midfielder, while discussions have also suggested a potential move for a different profile of striker.

Who have Arsenal been linked to?

Arsenal are in talks to sign Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga, but an agreement has yet to be reached to secure the services of the talented teenager.

Elsewhere, it has been reported that the Gunners have made a shock approach for Newcastle United and Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as they look to add more experience and star power to the centre of the pitch.

While they have entered talks with the Brazilian’s representatives, there is no suggestion that Guimaraes is keen to leave Tyneside and he has maintained his desire to sign a new contract at the club.

According to The Standard, Arsenal have made Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers their top transfer priority.

The publication claims that the Gunners have significant interest in the England international and are set to test Villa’s resolve with an imminent approach.

Rogers is said to be keen on a move to North London and personal terms won’t be a problem, though it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to pay the £100m price tag.

Should Arsenal sign Morgan Rogers?

Despite an outstanding season, Arsenal’s biggest weakness lies in their inability to kill off games in open play and convincingly beat their opponents by more than a one-goal margin.

Renowned for their 1-0 victories, the supporters will not be unhappy with how they have seen out games if it results in prestigious titles, but adding new attacking perspectives could take them to another level both domestically and on the European stage.

For those reasons, Rogers makes perfect sense for Arsenal, as he is a versatile attacking threat with the ability to cause chaos in the final third through his unpredictability and keen eye for goal.

The 23-year-old talent – once hailed as a “fighter” by Villa boss Unai Emery – scored 14 goals and registered 12 assists in 52 appearances this season, and played a key role in Villa’s European success in the Europa League.

His on-pitch intelligence, outstanding decision-making and hard-working attitude made him a certain selection for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad and earned him his place at the World Cup this summer.

Whether Arsenal can strike a deal with Aston Villa remains to be seen, especially given the reported £100m asking price.

However, if Mikel Arteta is serious about building a dynasty at the Emirates rather than settling for one league title, Rogers is exactly the type of player they should be targeting.

His versatility, creativity and proven Premier League quality could make him the perfect addition to an already outstanding squad.
