2 January signings Abramovich needs to hand Conte in January

Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are already looking at the winter transfer window to help build some depth in the squad.

If Chelsea are going to maintain and build a title challenge against the two Manchester clubs, our punters feel they may need a couple of signings come winter and hopefully have a better window than the summer one they watched unfold.

Antonio Conte was clearly not happy with how his third transfer window went and will be looking to capture his targets in what is usually a hard month to bring players in.

Roman Abramovich has never been afraid of throwing the cash at a manager to help the team progress and our landlord believes this season will be no different while the Blues look to win back to back titles for the first time since the early Jose Mourinho days.

If that feat is to be replicated these two signings could definitely help that push…

Ross Barkley

In a deadline day disaster, Barkley nearly secured a move to Stamford Bridge before pulling out on medical grounds due to his current injury, it’s thought Chelsea will go back in for Barkley come January and they to secure his services on the cheap before his contract runs out.

Barkley would make a great signing due to the fact he’d be eligible for the Champions League and he’ll want to push for a World Cup spot so will need to impress on the second half of the season.

Luke Shaw

The Man United left-back has not enjoyed the best few years at Old Trafford, failing to really impress the past two managers and his constant injuries make his stay at Old Trafford seem doomed. Indeed, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before he’s moved on.

Combine that with the fact his contract is running out at the end of next season, Chelsea could have another bargain in the bucket. Conte is Marcos using Alonso far too often for his liking and a fit Shaw would provide welcome cover in the left wing-back position.
