Liverpool supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side emphatically book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 7-0 thumping of Spartak Moscow in their final group game at Anfield on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men knew that victory would clinch top spot in Group E while a draw would also have been enough for qualification, yet the result was never really in doubt as the Merseyside giants produced another clinical attacking display on Wednesday. A hat-trick from Philippe Coutinho, a brace from Sadio Mane, as well as strikes from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah sealed a sensational win for the Reds, who became the fourth English team to win their Champions League group this season, alongside Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, several of whom are revelling in their team’s wonderful unbeaten run, which stretched to nine games following the rout on Wednesday night.

In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Reds fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking striker Danny Ings with a move to fellow top-flight club Newcastle United in January.

The one-time England international has struggled with injury since moving to Anfield back in 2015, yet a substitute’s cameo in the Carabao Cup back in September alongside several Premier League 2 appearances suggest that the forward is on the road to recovery.

And reports suggest that Rafa Benitez’s Magpies are interested in the 25-year-old, and were Ings to indeed move to St James’ Park in January, here are TWO other Liverpool stars who could follow him to the North East…

Andrew Robertson

Alberto Moreno’s indifferent form last season encouraged manager Klopp to go out and get a left-back in the summer, and he did just that by landing Hull City’s Andrew Robertson.

However, the Scotland international has fallen victim to Moreno’s drastically improved form so far this season, and as such has been restricted to just three Premier League starts, only one of which has come post-September.

And as such the 25-year-old may be on the lookout for a loan move in January, and with Newcastle somewhat struggling in the left-back department, with Paul Dummett having missed much of the campaign, Benitez could well look to Robertson as the answer to his full-back concerns.

Daniel Sturridge

Striker Daniel Sturridge has found the going tough at Liverpool since the arrival of Klopp back in October 2015, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, and now Mohamed Salah preferred to him in the forward areas.

And his troubles were exemplified last month when he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for friendlies against Germany and Brazil – the clearest indication yet that the 28-year-old must change something if he is to make the World Cup next summer.

And that change could involve leaving Anfield and finding first team football somewhere else, as there remains little doubt that Sturridge remains one of the best strikers England have got, but a lack of playing time is seriously hurting his chances of making Russia.

And with Newcastle in dire need of attacking reinforcements, the former Chelsea and Man City man could be the perfect addition to Benitez’s squad in January.
