Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their side edge Burnley 2-1 on New Year’s Day to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to 13 matches, at the same time boosting their top four chances.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into 2018 well placed to again qualify for the Champions League after victories over Swansea City and Leicester City moved them three points clear of Arsenal in fifth, and they put even greater distance between themselves and the chasing pack with an excellent victory at Turf Moor. Sadio Mane gave the Reds the lead on the hour mark only for Johann Gudmundsson to level proceedings three minutes from time, although the visitors weren’t to be denied as centre-back Ragnar Klaven bagged the winner in the fourth minute of added time to seal a 12th win of the season for Klopp’s side.

Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are daring to dream about what their team could go on to achieve in 2018, what with the Reds well placed for another top four finish, as well as set in the last 16 of the Champions League.

In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Reds fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking striker Daniel Sturridge with a move to fellow Premier League side Southampton this month.

The 28-year-old has struggled for regular football ever since Klopp took over at Anfield back in October 2015, and with a World Cup around the corner, the England star will be well aware that regular football is needed to make Gareth Southgate’s squad.

And Mauricio Pellegrino’s Saints are reportedly looking to offer him that World Cup lifeline this month, and were Sturridge to indeed move to the South Coast, here are TWO other Liverpool stars who should follow him in the January window…

Danny Ings

Striker Danny Ings has endured a tough time at Liverpool since his move from Burnley back in 2015, with injuries plaguing his progress in the North West.

The 25-year-old has managed just 14 first team appearances for the Reds in the last 18 months or so, although two Premier League appearances recently suggest that he could be nearing full fitness ahead of the second half of the campaign.

However, regular football at Anfield seems unlikely given the current choices at Klopp’s disposal, but with Southampton in dire need of attacking reinforcements to move them away from the relegation mire, they could do a lot worse than try and lure Ings to St Mary’s this month.

Dominic Solanke

Dominic Solanke was a surprise call up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the friendly against Brazil back in November, yet it does suggest that the 20-year-old could well be in his mind ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

But for the striker to really stake a claim for a spot in the final 23-man squad, he has to be playing regular football, and that simply isn’t happening at Liverpool with just 14 Premier League appearances to his name this term, of which only three have been starts.

Thus, the former Chelsea man could also be on the lookout for a move, likely temporary, in the January window, and Southampton could be the ideal destination given their evident struggles in the final third.
