To be fair to Mark Warburton, the Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have been absolutely delighted about how he’s conducted himself in what could have been a tricky season. 

Though this campaign has threatened to blow up in his face a couple of times thus far, the former Brentford coach has largely turned the Gers into one of the best teams in Scottish Premiership, aside from bitter rivals Celtic.

Still, there’s clearly a long way to go for those Ibrox if they are ever going to catch up with the Hoops and our drinkers believe the January transfer market can be the start of that.

Some astute additions to bed in ahead of next season could really help the side in the long run, particularly in the midfield area.

With Joey Barton having been and gone and Niko Kranjcar injured long-term, the engine room really could do with reinforcement in the New Year.

With all this in mind, here are TWO midfielders Rangers should sign this month.

Jon Toral

Things haven’t really worked out for Jon Toral on his travels to Granada, though the Arsenal man is clearly talented.

Would provide a nice and creative spark in the middle of the park, picking up positions that can help the Gers win tight games, chipping in with crucial goals and assists.

Leon Osman

Currently out of contract, Leon Osman is another name to be touted as a potential new signing at Ibrox.

While he’s barely the most exciting name on the lips of our punters, perhaps the former England international can help provide the sort of experience Joey Barton was really supposed to.
