Liverpool supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in recent days after seeing their side end a great week with a 4-1 hammering of West Ham at the London Stadium, a result which moved the Merseyside giants up to fifth place in the Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their encounter with the Hammers off the back of victories over Huddersfield Town and Maribor, and first half goals from Mohamed Salah and Joel Matip put them in firm control of proceedings in East London. And although Manuel Lanzini got one back for the hosts ten minutes after the break, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain restored their two-goal cushion almost immediately before Salah netted his second and Liverpool’s fourth 15 minutes from time to complete a comprehensive win.
Thus, there has been a buzz among our resident Liverpudlians such has been their recent return to form, although they were now have to wait two weeks to continue that momentum given the fortnight’s interruption for internationals.
Nonetheless, there is plenty going on to occupy those Reds supporters lining up at the bar, not least if a recent report from El Gol Digital is anything to go by, which suggests that Atletico Madrid are sizing up a move for Salah in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old has been in wonderful form for Liverpool since making the move from Roma during the summer, having netted 12 goals in just 17 appearances for the Reds, seven of which have come in the Premier League and four in their Champions League group stage campaign.
And Diego Simeone’s Atletico have clearly been impressed with what they’ve seen and are reportedly looking lure the Egypt international to the Spanish capital in the New Year, and if they do just that here are TWO other Liverpool stars who could follow the forward out of Anfield…
Emre Can
Emre Can’s future at Liverpool remains far from certain given that he has yet to pen a new deal with the club, as his current contract is due to expire this summer.
The Germany international has become an increasingly important member of Klopp’s squad at Anfield in recent years, having played 32 Premier League games last season to help the Reds finish fourth in the table, and thus return to the Champions League.
However, if there is no sign of progress on contract talks, the Merseysiders could look to cash in on the midfielder in January so they don’t lose him for free next summer.
Daniel Sturridge
Daniel Sturridge hasn’t had an easy time of it at Anfield under Klopp, and remains on the peripheries of the action this term as well.
The England international has featured in eight of their 11 Premier League games this season but started only four, with the likes of Salah, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, and Sadio Mane often preferred to the 28-year-old.
And with just 20 league appearances last season, the striker will surely need more gametime in the second half of the campaign to get himself into Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad, so a move away from Merseyside may well be in the offing for the former Chelsea and Manchester City forward.
