2 players who could follow Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Liverpool in January

Liverpool supporters are eagerly anticipating their side’s trip to Stoke City this evening, as the Reds seek to get back to winning ways in the Premier League after only mustering a 1-1 draw with champions Chelsea at Anfield last time out.

Jurgen Klopp’s men had won their preceding three league clashes prior to the Blues’ visit to Merseyside on Saturday, and they looked on course for a fourth when former Chelsea man Mohamed Salah gave them the lead midway through the second half. However, the Reds were unable to see out what would have been a seventh league victory of the campaign as Willian’s floated effort sailed over the head of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet five minutes from time to secure a point for Antonio Conte’s side, and thus instigate Liverpool’s fall outside of the Premier League’s top four.

Consequently, there have been mixed emotions among our resident Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, with many frustrated by their side’s inability to see out the game on Saturday, while some were more than satisfied with their team’s display against the champions.

In the meantime though, there has been plenty for those Reds fans lining up at the bar to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking them with a move for Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 22-year-old has been making huge strides at the Serie A outfit in recent years, and this season has seen him take it up another notch with four goals and two assists for the Italian giants, helping them to fifth place in the division.

Yet the Reds are reportedly leading the race for the talented midfielder, and were the Serbia international to make the move to Anfield in January, here are TWO other stars who could follow him to the North West…

Leon Goretzka

There has been much talk about the future of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka in the last few weeks, what with the 23-year-old having yet to agree a contract extension with the Bundesliga outfit.

And with his current deal set to expire in the summer, the Germany international could seek talks with another club come January 1, one of which could be Klopp’s Liverpool, who are reportedly keen on bringing the midfielder to Anfield.

And with the futures of Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho far from certain heading into the New Year, it’s a move the Reds boss must seek to make ahead of other interested parties like Arsenal and Tottenham when the window reopens in January.

Thomas Lemar

Thomas Lemar played a big part in Monaco’s astounding success last term, with the forward bagging 14 goals and laying on 17 assists to help Leonardo Jardim’s men to the Ligue 1 title, as well as the last four of the Champions League.

However, the French club were decimated by big-money departures over the summer, and Lemar looked set to be another out of the door as he was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, yet no deal materialised.

Yet the reopening of the January window could well see the France international finally make a move, with recent reports suggesting that Klopp’s Liverpool are interested in bringing him to the North West.

And given how impressive Lemar was for Monaco last term, it’s a move the Reds chief must look to make in the New Year.
