With the Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern often entrenched in so many discussions about the managerial situation at Ibrox, as the club ramp up attempts to replace Mark Warburton.
The Gers have been linked with all sorts of names over the past couple of weeks, though Portuguese tactician Pedro Caixinha is a left-field suggestion to say the very least. Thought to have left quite a mark during their interview process, the 46-year-old could be a dark horse in this managerial race.
Still, despite the information so readily available to our punters on their smartphones and the like, not a huge amount is known about a man currently managing over in the Middle East. So, nice as we are, we’ve decided to take a deeper look at the man in question.
With that in mind, here’s a look at TWO pros and TWO cons to Rangers potentially appointing him as their next boss.
Pro 1: Long-term target
Considering the gulf between the Gers and bitter rivals Celtic right now, this appointment is perhaps the most important one at Ibrox to get right in recent memory. So, the fact the Portuguese reportedly almost came close to making a move in 2015 is a promising one.
That’s indicative of just how well top brass atop the marble staircase think of the man, going in for him twice.
Con 2: Lack of Scottish experience
One of the major grievances during Warburton’s reign was his pretty dismal record against the Gers’ rivals. While the Old Firm is obviously documented, matches against Hibernian and Aberdeen mean an awful lot to the Ibrox faithful.
A lack of experience in Scotland could cost him big.
Pro 2: Reportedly willing to take a pay cut
The Daily Record suggest the Portuguese would be willing to take a hit on the apparent lucrative money he rakes in over in the Middle East, which could be good news for the Gers. That would suggest the 46-year-old is more about ambition than money, something likely to endear him to the Ibrox faithful.
Con 2: Chequered Past
While he’s currently working over in Qatar, the coach does have rather a chequered past at some of his other clubs. Spells with UD Leiria and CD Nacional in his homeland were relatively short lived and both jobs were left in acrimonious circumstances.
