Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are starting to feel more and more convinced that Wayne Rooney will not be at the club much longer.

The club’s record goal-scorer has been out in the cold for most of this season at Old Trafford and it really does seem he could be out of the door before too long.

Indeed, The Independent reckons that whilst he will not be off to China he will be hoping for offers from Premier League clubs to prolong his playing days in the top flight.

Where he ends up, at the moment, is anyone’s guess but our landlord reckons despite his lack of playing time he still won’t come that cheap given his talent and experience.

And with Jose Mourinho at the helm the club will certainly aim for a top price so they have extra funds to go for players in the summer.

So, with that in mind, here are two players our landlord feels United will go for if and when Rooney is sold on…

Antoine Griezmann

Griezmann is a world class player and so any side on the planet would be open to having him in their starting line-up.

However, few clubs can actually afford to do that and so United – should they go for him – will be part of a very select few. The money freed up from letting Rooney go would certainly bolster their chances, too, and so it looks like a potential move that would only strengthen their squad further.

Nelson Semedo

Antonio Valencia has done a fine job for Manchester United as a right-back over the last few years and has to be praised for that.

Even so, he’s certainly not going to be at the level he is for much longer and so a replacement needs to be lined up. Our landlord thinks Nelson Semedo could be the perfect player for the club to bring in given he is young and hugely talented and so the Rooney money could seriously come in handy.
