Tottenham supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team come from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw with European giants Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash on Tuesday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter in Turin off the back of edging past North London rivals Arsenal 1-0 in their preceding Premier League fixture, a result which extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 12 games. Yet they were made to work very hard for number 13 on Tuesday as a Gonzalo Higuain double gave Serie A champions Juve a 2-0 lead after just nine minutes, only for strikes from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen to earn a deserved draw for Spurs, thus making them favourites for progression when the two sides meet at Wembley in three weeks’ time.
Consequently, there have been many buoyant Tottenham fans in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are daring to dream about what their team could go on to achieve this season, given their continued participation in the FA Cup and of course the Champions League.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs supporters to discuss, not least recent reports suggesting that winger Erik Lamela is open to a return to Italy this summer, five years after leaving Serie A club Roma.
The 25-year-old missed over a year of action between October 2016 and November 2017 due to a hip injury, yet has since slowly but surely been eased back into first team action by manager Pochettino, in which time he has laid on three assists.
Yet the Argentina international is reportedly interested in making a move back to Italy, this time with Inter Milan, and were the winger to indeed leave Spurs this summer, here are TWO other stars who could follow him out of the club…
Toby Alderweireld
Toby Alderweireld’s contract expires in less than 18 months’ time, but the one-year trigger available to Spurs would reportedly see a £25 million release clause inserted into the deal – a lowly price for one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Yet things do not seem any nearer to a conclusion to cast doubts about his long-term future in North London, with his exclusion from the derby against Arsenal and their trip to Juventus only serving to heighten speculation.
Several sides are already being linked with the Belgium international, and were the situation to remain the same in the close season, Tottenham may seek to cash in on the centre-back over the summer.
Harry Kane
Tottenham fans won’t like it, but if their side were to fail to win a trophy this season or fail to finish inside the Premier League’s top four, there’s a very real possibility that Harry Kane will leave in the summer.
The England international has exceeded 30 goals already this season for the third time in four campaigns, and Real Madrid are already reported to be keeping tabs on the 24-year-old ahead of a possible move.
Clearly, Kane is one of the best strikers in world football at present, and were Spurs not be able to offer him elite European football next season, he could well seek to move in the summer.
