2 to axe, 2 to sign: The business Man Utd must sort in the next few weeks

Jose Mourinho has got a lot of work to at United if he wants to turn his boys into serious title challengers. Having qualified for the Champions League due to their Europa League success, they are back amongst the elite and will be aiming to be as competitive as possible against the European heavyweights.

All of us here in the Tavern can agree on one thing: Manchester United’s home form needs to improve drastically. Too many draws has led to many people saying that Old Trafford has lost it’s fear factor, a lot of smaller teams now go there truly believing that they can get a result and that has to change if United want to win another league title.

The squad doesn’t need a drastic overhaul. There is plenty of promise in their spirited youngsters and established internationals such as Pogba and Mkhitaryan provide vital experience and a winning mentality. Still, not only are additions needed but Mourinho is going to have to have to get rid of the players that are just not playing at the level United need to be playing at.

Check out the next few pages to see the two players that should be given to boot and the two that should be heading to Manchester…

OUT: Wayne Rooney

There is no doubt of Wayne Rooney’s legacy at Old Trafford. He has won it all and has been a mainstay of the Manchester United team since his arrival from Everton.

But over the last few seasons, his form has come under scrutiny and he just hasn’t been good enough to warrant a place in Mourinho’s first team. There is no doubt that Rooney has many years ahead of him, but it looks like it won’t be in Manchester.

A thoroughly divisive figure, the England skipper may have played his final game at the Theatre of Dreams.

OUT: Matteo Darmian

At Torino, Darmian showed tremendous promise and had many of the hallmarks to become a world-class full-back. Unfortunately, he just hasn’t taken to the Premier League.

It’s hard to say exactly why, but Darmian has not even come close to fulfilling his potential that he showed in Serie A. He may have played a huge role in United’s Europa League-winning campaign, though our punters tend to agree that was largely down to injuries.

Mourinho needs to give United a solid back line and it looks like Darmian would be a crack in that wall.

IN: Victor Lindelof

United need to get this one done as soon as possible.

Victor Lindelof is a modern defender with the ability to play assured short passes and probing long ones, music to the ears of our resident Red Devils.

He is very quick, strong and assured in tackles and has a winners mentality. Having won three of the last four Portuguese League titles, Mourinho will be hoping that Lindelof will help to change the mentality of a United squad with a declining number of Premier League winners.

IN: Ivan Perisic

Ivan Perisic has won domestic titles, cups, footballer of the year awards, has been a league top scorer and was named the second best performing player in the group stages at the last World Cup by Fifa (behind only James Rodriguez).

There have been some corners of social media that have been less than enthusiastic about his potential arrival, however, Perisic ticks every box that Mourinho should be looking for in a wide forward player.

Eleven goals for Inter last season and with a knack for performing in the big games, he would be a very sensible signing for an ambitious Manchester United.

What do you think United fans? Do you agree or are there others you want to see coming and going in the summer?
