2 transfer window mistakes that Liverpool could live to regret

Liverpool are looking good this season, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting great things…

Jurgen Klopp appears to have finally got his message across to his players, and after a few years of mediocrity, things are beginning to look very good indeed at Anfield.

For the most part, it was a summer of real progression, too. Mo Salah has come in and made a massive impact, whilst new signing Andrew Robertson looks to be a shrewd acquisition.

However, despite their success, the Reds’ summer was far from perfect. Rather, there were a few decisions that have made the fans in the Transfer Tavern scratch their heads.

With that said, here are 2 transfer window mistakes Liverpool could live to regret…

 Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk’s future was uncertain right up until the final moment of the transfer window, and a move to Liverpool could have been perfect.

Central defence is the weakest spot in Liverpool’s first team. Dejan Lovren is decent, and Joel Matip has been a hit – but neither player is really good enough when it comes to competing amongst Europe’s best in the Champions League.

Van Dijk would have been a leader, a powerhouse and a quality defender at the back – and that’s just what they need. They’ll regret not doing more to sign him.

Naby Keita

Liverpool have signed Naby Keita, and that’s massive for the club.

He was a star for RB Leipzig last season, and it’s clear that next season – when he moves to Anfield – he will have a massive impact in the Premier League. But could Liverpool live to rue their failure to sign him ahead of this term?

The deal may have been very difficult to come by, but Liverpool are looking very strong at present, and all they’re lacking is a midfield powerhouse like Keita to really kick on.

They will be in the race this season, but they would have a much better chance at glory with Keita in the side now, rather than later. Perhaps if they had moved far earlier in the summer, they would have got their man.
