Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern really were excited in January amid links between their club and Victor Lindelof of Benfica, so it came as a disappointment to them when a deal failed to come to fruition.
The Sweden international was heavily aligned with a winter switch to Old Trafford, while since the passing of the deadline The Sun have claimed he remains a target for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Alas, since then he has penned a new contract at Benfica, but with so many players having done so in the past only to move on soon after, there remains a chance the Manchester giants may indeed get their man.
And Swedish outlet Expressen haven’t forgotten about the Man United links and quizzed the defender on them, to which he replied:
“Much has been written but it’s nothing I have focused on.
“I have always focused on what was important to me and it’s club football. There is no difference for me. As I said I thrive in Benfica and that’s where the focus has been.
“A lot has been written but I’ve said nothing.”
Lindelof, 22, only signed for Benfica as a youth prospect from Vasteras in his homeland in 2012 and has been capped 11 times at senior international level.
Manchester United should return for Victor Lindelof this summer – agree?
