When Lucas Perez joined West Ham from Arsenal, it looked to be one of the bargains deals of the summer.
Signed for a reported £4 million after costing the Gunners £17 million just 12 months earlier, the Spanish striker on paper looked like a coup for the Hammers, who were bringing in a player who has the quality to play in the Premier League, but a year later, it’s easy to see why the north London side were so eager to sell on Perez.
The 30-year-old striker has been poor for the Hammers, failing to nail down a starting XI spot and only scoring six goals this season, and now according to Marca, La Liga side Alaves are interested in bringing Perez back to Spain this summer, and West Ham should act quickly to get the forward out of the club.
West Ham are in need of a complete refresh this summer when it comes to their attacking options, and Perez has to be one of the first players to leaves the club in order to kick start the exodus.
Even though the Spaniard was signed for a cheap fee, his reported £80,000-a-week contract makes him one of the highest paid players at West Ham, and that’s money the club can reinvest into a better striker.
Perez might have been seen as a cheap deal at first, but a below-average season has seen the striker fall out of favour with Manuel Pellegrini already, and for the betterment of the club, the attacker must walk from east London this summer.
