When Jose Mourinho was appointed as the manager of Manchester United the Red Devils fans here in the Transfer Tavern began singing songs of glee and hope that the ‘Special One’ could turn things around.
However, as we approach January, Mourinho’s United are currently well outside the top four having drawn game after game recently in the league – baffling their fans.
But whilst things have not started brightly under the former Chelsea boss, the January transfer window may offer the chance to push Man United into those Champions League spots.
Many fans in the Transfer Tavern were expecting United to challenge for the title this season and, with some big name signings, they could still rise up the table and take it from everybody else. If Leicester can win the league then anything is possible.
So, with that in mind, here are three ambitious January signings to turn Man United’s season around…
Hector Bellerin
Could Man United lure another Arsenal star to Old Trafford?
If they could then they would have one of the best right backs in the league. Despite being injured this season, Bellerin has been one of Arsenal’s key players and he would fit in perfectly with Man United’s defence. Antonio Valencia is doing an okay job so far for United but he still isn’t a natural right back.
Thiago
If Bayern Munich willing to let another midfielder leave to Man United, Thiago could definitely be a key player for them.
Paul Pogba has had a shaky season so far but if he has Thiago as his midfield partner then it will allow him to be more expressive going forward. The Spaniard has not always been the main player for Bayern and so he may feel that a challenge in the Premier League and a guaranteed first team place, may be enough to move.
Koke
The Atletico Madrid play-maker would be an excellent addition for United.
Whether you play him in midfield or on the wings he performs and could also potentially replace Wayne Rooney in the central attacking midfield role.
Despite being only 24, the Spaniard has already won La Liga with Atletico and so maybe it’s time for him to test himself in the Premier League.
