3 former strikers who Man Utd fans would love to partner Ibrahimovic

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic now occupying the central striking berth at Old Trafford, the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have little reason to complain.

One of the elite players in the last decade of European football, the superstar Swede is undoubtedly the main man up front for the Red Devils. As proved when he took Wayne Rooney right off of spot-kick duty against Southampton.

Still, the 34-year-old is just the latest in a long line of top forwards to turn out for the Old Trafford giants, carrying on a proud tradition.

With that in mind, who could the Swede have worked best with?

Obvious candidates such Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo and George Best would clearly create a formidable partnership.

Still, such are the nature of their illustrious players over the years, there are far more options who perhaps don’t jump to the forefront of thinking straight away.

Having said all that, here are THREE former Man United strikers fans would love to see partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez

A typical fox-in-the-box, Javier Hernandez playing off the former Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona marksman would be the ideal foil.

While Zlatan is barely the most willing to pass, he’s tended to drop deep in order to allow willing runners to break past him during his brief time in England.

To latch on to passes and make use of his knockdowns, the Mexican would be perfect.

Wayne Rooney (circa 2009-2010)

Now a labouring midfielder, Wayne Rooney actually used to be quite the striker in his day.

Arguably at his best during the 2009/10 season, when he bagged 26 league goals, the two could have perhaps operated in a similar fashion to the Luiz Suarez-Daniel Sturridge partnership.

While United fans may not take that comparison too well, both could be considered a mix between No.9 and No.10, creating a hugely varied attack.

Dimitar Berbatov

Just imagine the ego.

Not a whole lot of defensive work would have been done, but there would be some truly spectacular goals.

Worth the price of a ticket alone.
