Tottenham had a disappointing start to their Champions League campaign, as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat from visiting Monaco at Wembley Stadium.
Despite a record attendance of over 85,000, Mauricio Pochettino’s men ultimately were unable to deliver on one of the biggest nights in the club’s recent history thanks to sloppy defensive errors in the first half.
Two goals in the first 31 minutes from Monaco’s Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar all but sealed the fixture early on, with Spurs struggling to find a way back into the game from then on.
Defender Toby Alderweireld gave the hosts hope when he scored a trademark header on the stroke of half time, however the comeback was not to be with Harry Kane missing a good opportunity to level the score late-on.
While their Champions League dream isn’t over, life is certainly a lot more difficult now however and improvements must be made in their remaining fixtures if they are indeed to escape their group.

Joshua Onomah
Funnily enough, youngster Onomah made his senior debut for Tottenham last season in December against you guessed it, Monaco.
On that night the versatile midfielder played a full 90 minutes as Spurs came out 4-1 victors.
He made a further 17 appearances last season however most were cameos and failed to make a statement, during his short time on the pitch despite looking at home amongst the likes of Eric Dier and Dele Alli in midfield.
Harry Winks
Spurs seem to enjoy producing young English midfielders at the moment, another one being Harry Winks who has already captained England at U-20 level and already made his Tottenham debut.
The 20-year-old has already signed a new deal with the club which will keep him at White Hart Lane till 2019 too, which indicates the box-to-box midfield man is part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans going forward.
Georges-Kevin N’Koudou
Only hidden in the sense he hasn’t actually played yet, but N’Koudou – who signed for Tottenham in a final etchings of this summers transfer window – promises to be an exciting young prospect having enjoyed a terrific campaign in Ligue 1 with Marseille last season.
The pacy winger/forward will add a different dimension to Tottenham’s play in the final third as they lack a natural wide-man amongst their ranks.
If fellow new man and 6ft 4 Vincent Janssen and him link-up, the results could be devastating.
