3 players Newcastle United should cash in on during the January transfer window

It’s a bit quiet on a Wednesday evening here in the Transfer Tavern, as the landlord wipes down the tables – until three Newcastle United fans saunter through the door.

They order three Brown ales of the Newcastle variety, and sit looking kind of glum on the bar stools, talking about all the latest transfer news they have seen on the Tavern’s twitter feed.

The landlord serve sup another batch of ales and start talking, about Newcastle United sitting in the bottom three of the Premier League table, in dire need of some fresh recruits to bolster the underperforming Toon squad.

‘What we need to do is to cash in on some players to get a bucket load of cash to spend a some decent players!’ – one of the Geordie lads blurts out.

Adam Armstrong

The first player on cash out list was Adam Armstrong, “why not sell him all we do is loan him out” was the quote between mouthfuls of ale from the Geordie fans here in the Tavern.

Armstrong has made a name for himself on loan at Coventry, banging in the goals for fun this season.

Our landlord has heard that several clubs have expressed an interest, and he could be worth a few quid, to a struggling Championship club in desperate need for goals.

It is clear that the striker is not in McClaren’s immediate first-team plans, so it may be better to cash in on him now.

Cheick Tiote

The second player the Toon Army patrons here in the Tavern suggested was Cheick Tiote.

He has played 13 times for Newcastle this season at 29, with all the Geordie fans here feeling he is way past his best now.

Tiote hasn’t performed to his usual level this season, so it would be good to move him on while they still can, to get a half decent amount for him.

Tiote has only been on the winning team twice this season, perhaps he’s bad luck, but whatever he is, the Newcastle chums have decided to send him on his way!

Siem de Jong

“£6million we paid for him, sell him for a pound” not quite sure the Toon Army here in the Tavern quite understand the full ins and outs of a transfer deal…

He flatters to deceive looks great with flicks and tricks when the going is good, but disappears when the chips are down.

One goal in 17 games against League Two opposition is not a great return, and our resident Toon fans feel McClaren should send him packing with the other two.

It is evident that De Jong is simply not suited to the intensity and tempo of the Premier League, so selling him would surely be beneficial for all involved.

Why not pop into the Tavern and have your say……Who would you want to sign this month? More importantly who do you want out of Newcastle? (Apart from Mike Ashley) Pop in and have a word below!
