After another good result in the EFL Cup, Liverpool fans here in the Tavern are becoming more and more excited by the week!
The Reds overcame Tottenham in a potentially tricky cup tie on Tuesday evening, beating Spurs 2-1 at Anfield with a second-string side.
There were plenty of positives for Jurgen Klopp to take from the game and going into this weekend’s match with Crystal Palace, his camp should be confident of another win.
But Palace will be no easy pickings, especially seeing as their forward line is now being led by no other than Christian Benteke, who will be out for a spot of retribution when his former employers visit Selhurst Park on Saturday.
And looking ahead to the game, the landlord in here believes he can pick out three key players who will be involved from the off in the game.
So armed with his advice, here’s our list of three players to look out for in the game between Palace and Liverpool…
Christian Benteke
We mentioned him in the intro but there is no way whatsoever Christian Benteke won’t have an effect on this game in one way or another.
The former Reds man netted on ten occasions during his one-season spell at Anfield, which quickly saw him shown the back door at the club.
He’s now at Palace and will be wanting to prove his credentials once again, and a couple of goals against his former side will be right at the top of his to-do list this weekend.
James McArthur
Some supporters may be surprised to see James McArthur in this list but this season, he’s been a real anchor in Palace’s midfield.
The Scottish international has been superb and time-after-time he’s come in for some real praise from Eagles supporters, impressed by the way he’s protected his back four.
Liverpool have real strength in numbers going forward but may find it tough to get through the former Wigan man.
Roberto Firmino
Whilst Palace have been good this season, Liverpool have been better – and it would be unfair to leave this list entirely Reds-free.
Roberto Firmino has been given the license to move into the central striking role by Jurgen Klopp and it’s an area he’s excelled in since making the switch from midfield.
His movement is fantastic and with him on the pitch, Liverpool are always going to score goals.
This will be an exciting game between two good teams.
