Spurs fans here in the Tavern return back to their working week with mixed thoughts after reports emerge of a possible unwanted departure… The sunny parts of Madrid go in search of the mind-boggling Argentine.  

Since being appointed as manager of Tottenham Hotspur back in 2014 Mauricio Pochettino, who was originally given a 5-year contract has really impressed for the club as he makes them one of the best teams in Europe. With Daniel Levy reaping the rewards of consistent progression under the Argentine and, with Champions League becoming the norm, he decided to reward the coach with an extended long-term contract to take him through to 2021.

Pochettino has best created his winning ways and success in the form of an attacking style of football with an added high pressing as he deploys all type of formations to adapt to his opponent. Utilizing the more quick and stamina-based players which allow for all the successes for them when posing a threat in a high press system, Tottenham really are one of the best.

Now with the 2017 season in full flow and beginning to take shape, the fans at Wembley are starting to buy into the Pochettino legacy as another emphatic start has seen Spurs rise to 3rd position, only behind United on goal difference.

In what has been a super start for the club, one man in particular who Pochettino has really brought the best out of is the prolific Harry Kane as the Englishman just can’t stop scoring as he already tallies a whopping 13 goals in 12 games.

However, after recent reports of a potential switch to Real Madrid for the Spurs boss as the Los Blancos executives have taken a liking to the Argentine after the recent 1-1 draw with his side at the Bernabeu. So, with the prying eyes of the Spanish giants watching on it looks as if the release of 2021 may have been all too much over predicted as we wait to find out if the Argentine can resist working with the wonders of Cristiano Ronaldo.

So here’s a look at the potential masterminds that could take over Pochettino’s reign at Spurs…

Thomas Tuchel

The German is currently unemployed in the footballing world as he looks for a way back in. After taking charge of giants Borrusia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, he enjoyed a very successful time at the helm as he endured a 62% win rate over the 2 years in charge.

After securing a 2nd and 3rd place finish in the two years in charge, he began to build his name in lights both with the club and with this man’s name filtering through to other countries.

Many fans at the Westfalenstadion know this mastermind best for bringing Champions League nights back for the side after the fall of now Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Having made it to the quarterfinals of the group stage in 2016 this man was beginning to make a name for himself.

Similarly, both he and Spurs enjoy to play a high press attacking style of play as he brought about a constant goal threat for the side in his time in charge so therefore would be the perfect fit and a way back in for the former Dortmund gaffer.

Diego Simeone

The Spurs faithful have taken well to Argentines over time with their main man Pochettino being a revelation for the club.

With that in mind, in what is his 7th season with Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone has never failed to produce progression for the club as Champions League football has always been a regularity with this man in charge.

Leading them to 5 trophies and 2 runner-up medals in the Champions League, he’s made a name for himself as one of the most up and coming managers as success is the only language he speaks. After stating in 2016 that he’d love to manage in the Premier League one day it looks as if Spurs may be in luck as the possible replacement for fellow Argentine.

Also another Argentine who loves playing the possession and pressing style of player with the signature of some very attacking players over his time there is no reason as to why the Spurs fans can’t warm to this man.

Maurizio Sarri

The Italian manager is the coach of giants Napoli, having taken over at the helm in June of 2015, he’s produced fantastic results for the side having taken them to 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the Serie A in his time.

With a win percentage of 66% in what is arguably one of the most difficult leagues in the world, it really does look as if tactically this manager can take teams places.

After a fantastic start to the season so far the Italian mastermind has seen his side climb to the summit of the Serie A table as they go unbeaten after the first 9 games of the season in what has the makings of a very promising season.

He sets his teams out in an almost identical manner to the Spurs side, wanting to pack the midfield with the one man up top, having attacking players working off the sides with the likes of Marek Hamsik and Dries Mertens. He really does have the potential to be a fantastic manager in the Premier League.
