The Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are loving life under Mauricio Pochettino as they look set to compete for the Premier League title for the second successive season.

Saturday’s 4-0 win against West Brom was their sixth top-flight triumph in a row, and they have shown their strengths at both ends of the pitch by scoring 19 times in that run, and conceding just three goals including a clean sheet against Chelsea in a 2-0 win which ended the leaders’ 13-match winning run.

While it may seem to some as though Spurs don’t need to strengthen during the January transfer window, there are certainly some players that the punters at the bar know would further enhance their bid to win their first-ever Premier League trophy.

For example, manager Mauricio Pochettino may be looking for another striker to take some off the pressure off of top marksman Harry Kane, while he may also need some cover in attacking midfield and on the wing should any of his key men pick up any injuries or suspensions.

Here are THREE realistic January signings that would improve the in-form Tottenham…

Isco

It wouldn’t be a normal transfer window if Tottenham weren’t linked with a move for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco, but surely his time at the Bernabeu is now coming to an end.

The 24-year-old has endured another frustrating season in the Spanish capital as he has been in and out of Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI. When he has been named in the team, the former Malaga man has often been hauled off early.

As the Spurs fans standing at the bar will know, the Spain international has the quality to be a success in the Premier League and it has perhaps got to a stage where Mauricio Pochettino will only sign players if they are better than what he already has – Isco certainly comes under that category.

With four goals this term, the Spaniard would provide some stiff competition to Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli behind Harry Kane and would certainly get a seal of approval from the pub landlord.

Nicolas Gaitan

Despite only joining Atletico Madrid from Benfica during the summer, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing a move for Gaitan according to reports in Spanish publication AS.

Pochettino’s Argentine compatriot has struggled for first team minutes under Diego Simeone this term despite joining the La Liga giants for a sizeable fee, usually finding himself on the substitutes’ bench, and could be looking for more regular football – he is certainly an individual that would be well known and liked by the Spurs punters.

However, the 28-year-old did score the winning goal in Atletico’s 1-0 win against Real Betis on Saturday and he would provide real competition for the likes of Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko on the wing at White Hart Lane, and boost a young squad that is chasing their first Premier League title.

Sebastian Driussi

While Spurs have Harry Kane to score the goals up top, Mauricio Pochettino could be looking for a younger alternative to the England international to provide some competition over the remainder of the season – especially as Tottenham struggled to find the net when the favourite of the fans standing by the bar was missing through injury earlier in the campaign.

Summer signing Vincent Janssen has failed to impress when he has deputised and the Argentine manager has been linked with a move for young River Plate forward Driussi in recent days – although the landlord may think that a more experienced and proven striker would be a better option.

The 20-year-old has netted 10 goals in 14 appearances for River Plate this season to show his potential as a goalscorer, and he could be tempted to come to England to work under his national compatriot and with Erik Lamela in the Premier League.
