Many Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are marvelling in the reported fee they could be receiving for Jordon Ibe, however there are a pair of Reds fans over in the corner who are arguing that the winger should be kept at Anfield.

Back in 2013 Jordon Ibe and Raheem Sterling were two of the upcoming stars at Liverpool both looked like real young talents that would be in the Liverpool side for years to come.

That is not the case for either player. Whilst Sterling has gone on to a big money move to Man City, Ibe has not quite had the impact some of the Merseyside fans were expecting.

He has been sent out on loan on several occasions since first breaking into the first team at the end of the 2012-2013, season, including spells at Birmingham and Derby.

This week however has brought fresh speculation about the future of the 20-year-old, with Bournemouth reportedly prepared to pay £15 million for the youngster.

Eddie Howe is able to offer the England U21 first team football at The Cherries next season, something he found difficult to come by under Jurgen Klopp last season.

However whilst the former Wycombe man may not have the manager completely convinced yet, here are three reasons The Reds should hold onto the winger…

Liverpool Lack Width 

After the sale of Raheem Sterling, Liverpool never seem to have replaced one of their few players who could be called a winger.

Jordan Ibe is one of the few left in the squad. Whilst some might argue Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho can all play out wide, the point remains that Liverpool only have the 20-year-old and now Sadio Mane, who’s favoured positions are out on the flanks.

Width will be important to give the Liverpool squad a sense of versatility, and will provide Klopp with several different options in terms of formation and style of play.

Time is on his side

At just 20, the player certainly has time on his side. First moving to Liverpool at 16-years-old, and then making his debut at 17, it feels as though Ibe has been around for ages.

The fact is, youngsters these days have too much pressure heaped on their shoulders too early, and are often put out on loan all around the country, with little time to settle and find their feet.

Harry Kane is a prime example. 2 years ago, the Spurs player was barely mentioned in football conversation, not becoming a regular until 2014, and put out on loan to the likes of Norwich and Millwall in the years before.

It wasn’t until Kane was age 20/21 years old that he became the £50 million striker he is today.

This is something Klopp should certainly take into consideration before giving Eddie Howe what could be the bargain of the summer.

His talent suggests potential 

Jordan Ibe is raved about by almost anyone he has worked with. Brendan Rodgers described him as a talented player with a real footballing brain, whilst during his time at Derby Steve McClaren labelled him as an exciting old fashioned winger that you don’t see in the game anymore.

He is pacey, strong, and powerful and threatens defences running at them directly. Little scares a defender more than having a player with the qualities that the England man possesses running at them with pace.

Traits that perhaps the winger sometimes doesn’t show, such as composure in the big games, and fulfilling his defensive responsibilities are the kind of things that develop with game time.

In terms of raw talent, there are few who believe Ibe is lacking, and is precisely why he deserves another shot at making his mark at Anfield next season.
