The Newcastle United side touted to sweep all before them in the Championship have begun life back in the second tier in the least possible way. 

Two dismal losses to the hands of Fulham and Huddersfield Town have tempered expectations on Tyneside, though the Toon Army are still favourites in the eyes of many.

And so they should be.

Clearly, it’s going to be some adjustment for Rafa Benitez and his players.

Still, life in that division is long haul and the former Real Madrid manager has time aplenty to right the wrongs shown in the opening stages of the campaign.

Boasting a squad that competitors can only envy, the rocky start has no doubt brought the club back down to earth, though does little to undermine the quality on offer at St. James’ Park.

When it clicks, the Magpies will soar.

Though there is a feeling of optimism around the club these days, players feeling the nerves of such expectation has been prevalent in the opening stages.

Expected to sweep all before them, many of the stars will undoubtedly have to adjust to playing in front of such a huge crowd.

However, as the season gets into full swing, the simple passes and defensive mistakes will surely be eradicated from such a talented squad.

Once they get a few wins under their belt, the abundance of talent will flourish.

Benitez = Organiser

Two losses in the opening two games will only confirm the fact that Rafa Benitez’s lack of Championship experience will cost him dearly this season.

To those who doubt him anyway.

The Spaniard is a truly wonderful organiser, something that is likely to stand him good stead once his players get used to life in the Championship.

A masterful tactician, he’ll be working day and night to sort his side out.

Mitro’s On Fire

Though Dwight Gayle is likely to score when given chances, the former Crystal Palace man has cast a frustrated figure in his opening fixtures.

A lethal finisher, he does lack the physical presence so often required in the hustle and bustle of the Championship.

However, teammate Aleksandar Mitrovic looks more than up for the fight.

Questions about his temperament are rightly raised, though Benitez is the perfect man to reign in the fiery Serbian.

A hugely imposing presence, the 21-year old will give the Magpies another dimension entirely, as well as a lot of red cards goals.
