There aren’t many words to describe the appalling England displays at EURO 2016. After a tremendous season with Tottenham, no England player performed quite as badly as Harry Kane.
The 22-year old striker, who won the Premier League golden boot scoring 25 goals last term for Spurs, could not get going in France and missed chance after chance as well as taking some shocking corners and free kicks.
Most certainly not a set-piece specialist.
The Spurs ace may have been tired but and perhaps he needed a break after a long season but maybe he just couldn’t handle the pressure.
Even he and Alli could not find the form that the pair had been showing all the way through last season.
It may sound harsh after his superb season for Pochettino but the Landlord at the Tavern thinks that maybe Spurs should give Kane a rest, at least for the start of the upcoming season and here is why.
Back to form
Kane will surely be emotionally scarred after this summer. He is bound to be booed and jeered by opposition fans on his return to the Premier League and he will need some time to get prepared for that.
While clearly he is not fragile, such a nightmare experience will require a need to be training and preparing to hit the form that he showed all the way through last year.
Rest
If the reason Kane struggled in France was down to his fatigue then Spurs should give him the break he needs.
Should he be called back for the very start of the season, he will have had a very short break to get away from football and not tire himself out even more.
He is bound to get injured if he keeps playing 2 games a week. The Spurs fans at the Tavern aren’t sure whether the team can perform without him!
Chance for others
Kane’s rise to England’s star striker and Tottenham’s main man was very sudden. In recent years, the club’s academy has produced some inducible players and this summer, Spurs are in the market for some new faces.
The longer Kane has a rest, the more opportunities there are for others to break into the side and show their potential.
The Spurs fan by the pool table doesn’t want to take any risks and certainly doesn’t want to finish behind bloody Arsenal again…
