The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern tonight are hoping Arsene Wenger can bring another talented Frenchman to their ranks.

Thomas Lemar’s link with Arsenal has gone slightly under the radar due to his Monaco team mate, Kylian Mbappe’s rather hopeful link to the Gunners.

Whilst Mbappe is looking more and more unlikely, Lemar’s move is still a possibility and he would be a brilliant signing for Wenger.

The 21-year-old winger broke onto the scene last season along with most of the Monaco first team after an impressive season saw them capture the French league title and make it to the Champions League semi-finals, and has become one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe.

The £20.4m-rated winger will most likely cost Arsenal somewhere in the region of £40-£50 million in today’s market which would take Arsenal’s spending over the £100 million mark this summer, but would he be worth it?

Assists

Last season, Lemar managed 11 assists in the league.

Compare that to nine from both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s combined 57 league games last season and it is easy to see how Lemar could improve the Arsenal squad immensely.

He offers the same pace as Arsenal’s current wingers meaning he’ll be able to fit into the style of play that they already offer, only he will most likely do it better.

He only missed two games last season

Lemar was a key figure for Monaco last season as they stole the league title away from PSG.

Only missing two games last season proves how important he was to the side and both of those games he missed due to injury.

He made the starting 11, 28 times out of the 36 games he featured in last season only staying on the bench twice.

A consistent player who rarely gets injured who would play in every game of the season if he could, not bad qualities in a player.

His age

You can argue whether or not this is a stat, maybe it isn’t a playing stat but it’s still something important to look at.

At only 21-years-old, Thomas Lemar has his best years ahead of him and unlike if Mbappe was to sign for The Gunners, Lemar wouldn’t necessarily use them as a stepping stone for bigger things.

Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world and if he were to join and start winning trophies, then there is no reason as to why he wouldn’t remain at the club for years to come.
