The Huddersfield fans in the Transfer Tavern have all called in sick today so they can continue their celebrations after their historic win against Crystal Palace.

The Premier League season is under way following one of the most exciting opening weekends in the competition’s history.

One of the stand out results from this past weekend was the newly promoted Huddersfield Town recording a 3-0 win against Crystal Palace, in their first ever Premier League game.

Frank de Boer’s first game as Palace manager ended up being one to forget as what should have been their easiest game of the season turned into a nightmare for the Dutch manager.

Obviously, there are still 37 games to go this season and a lot can change in that time and with some time left in the transfer window, there is still time left for both sides to learn from their opening games.

With that being said, here are three things we learned from Huddersfield’s opening day win over Crystal Palace.

De Boer’s possession game doesn’t suit Palace

Frank de Boer’s debut as Palace manager saw the London club adopt a possession based game compared to the more direct approach they have taken in previous years.

It didn’t seem to work out too well for them.

Out of their 14 shots, only four of them were on target as they failed to provide any real attacking threat.

De Boer is unlikely to change his managerial style so his players will have to quickly adapt to this style of play.

Steve Mounie could be the surprise of the season

Honestly speaking, who knew who Steve Mounie was before his brace against Palace?

Our landlord certainly didn’t but now, everyone in the country knows the name.

His debut shows explosive pace, strength, power and an eye for goal. Very similar to his idol, Didier Drogba.

Now that everyone knows what he is about they will be set up to stop him but if he can rise to the occasion for the rest of the season, then he could be the surprise package of the 2017/18 season.

3-4-3 isn’t for everyone

In this day and age, every man and their dog seem to be trying a 3-4-3 formation.

Following on from Chelsea’s domination in the league last season using that same formation, Arsenal tried it in the FA cup final and City have incorporated it too.

It is a very popular formation right now but Palace’s performance proved it may not be for everybody.

Similarly to De Boer’s possession play, it is unlikely he will change it just yet so his squad will have a lot of work to do to get used to it.
