Liverpool’s recent Premier League form has been pretty poor, with the Reds unable to secure any number of wins on the bounce, but fortunately, their Champions League campaign took a significant upturn on Tuesday evening. A dominant 7-0 win came against Maribor came in Slovenia, with Liverpool comfortably dispatching their opponents.

In truth, it was undoubtedly the Reds’ best game of the season so far, with every single player putting in a shift. It was particularly remarkable given just how tough they’ve found things lately, and so the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their form will turnaround after securing such a dominant win.

Jurgen Klopp will undoubtedly be delighted about the game, and he’ll also be able to take a lot of information about the result with him as he learns from the game and looks towards his next fixture. Liverpool have torn teams apart under Jurgen Klopp in the past, but no side has faced the wrath of the Reds quite like that.

From minute one, there was no doubt that Liverpool would storm to a victory, but the 7-0 scoreline says a lot about their quality on the field.

It also suggests that the side are committed from whistle to whistle, which is a trait that is rarely present in some of Europe’s biggest teams. They were ruthless and that will be key as the season progresses and they look to dominate their opponents. If they don’t take their foot off the gas, they won’t be caught.

 James Milner

James Milner might be getting on and nearing the end of his career, but he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

The Englishman was arguably the best player on the pitch against Maribor, and he deserves so much credit for that. If nothing else, it proved that he can be more than a fringe player this season, with the experienced midfielder still able to play a key role.

He’s certainly in with a chance of featuring this weekend against Tottenham.

 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Another individual performance worth mentioning is that of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Englishman was one of the goalscorers for Jurgen Klopp’s men, and beyond that, his performance, in general, was very solid. He’s finally starting to show the promise that was expected of him when he moved to Anfield, and that will please his manager.

Now that he’s picked up an important goal, he’ll get a nice confidence boost and hopefully kick on.
