Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Tavern are growing to admire their side as they look to continue their fine form of late. Indeed, ever since their strong performance at Real Madrid, our north London locals haven’t stopped celebrating. 

After the destruction of the beloved White Hart Lane Tottenham have struggled to come to grips with their so-called new home Wembley stadium, though did recently record their first Premier League win there, over Bournemouth.

Indeed, they’ve been unbeaten in their last 7 games against some tough opposition and it is beginning to look like the structure of something positive is growing here for Pochettino and his men. Having won their last Premier League game 1-0 at home to the Cherries, they carried their league form into Europe as they pulled off a very respectable 1-1 draw with Spanish giants Real Madrid after an impressive display.

Having produced what was a very solid and resolute defensive performance mixed with some heroics from Hugo Lloris and some attacking magic by the front men, Spurs sit proudly at the summit of their Champions League group as they look to build on it.

So, with the fans and players in high hopes and spirits they move onto their next Premier League fixture which is back at Wembley against title rivals Liverpool. However, it won’t be easy as the Reds are on a fine run of form of late as they conjured up 7 goals in their last game and an impressive draw against United.

With title aspirations still alive and the hunt for a Champions League place once again being the clubs main aim it is going to be an all important game as two ambitious trophy hunting sides go head to head in the capital.

So as the clash between these two sides approaches, I had a look at what side Pochettino should field…

GK: Hugo Lloris

The French shot-stopper put on a magical display last time out at the Bernabeu as he just seems to never stop progressing. The Spurs man is arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League as he is there when his team needs him the most.

There’s no troubling this man gaining a starting spot as he looks to continue to provide that solidity in behind the defence.

RB: Serge Aurier

The Ivorian international has settled down very well at the London based club after his switch from PSG. The full-back offers Spurs both a defensive and attacking outlet down the right as he used his pace to get into dangerous positions to create both a forwards and defenders nightmare.

This man gets the call and, with the searing pace of the dangerous front 3 of Salah, Firmino and Coutinho, he will have to be at his best.

CB: Toby Alderweireld

The defensive rock has always been one of Spurs key players over the past few seasons by producing the type of performances and shutouts that put him up there as one of the best in the world. Providing a stable central base in defence, he utilities his strength and aerial ability to overpower any ambitious forward that dares get in his way.

The Belgian really has no issue in getting into this side as one of the most important players on the field.

CB: Jan Vertonghen

The Belgian partner, Jan Vertonghen, has been a very consistent player in his time at Spurs whether its playing at centre-back or at left-back. The defensive man has all the experience and the level head needed to provide a calm and imposing performance on the opposition as he will look to utilize his defensive capabilities to shut out the Liverpool side.

Just edging it over Davison Sanchez, the centre-half will be looking to impose himself on the game, because if he is on his best form, then Liverpool will struggle to get past this man.

LB: Danny Rose

The pacey left back has just returned from injury and he featured in his first game back against Madrid off the bench. The English left-back has proved himself to be the number 1 in that position for club and country as he looks to force his way back into these roles.

Offering that extra burst of speed and big game experience, Danny Rose is one of those players you need in your team heading into an important clash.

CDM: Eric Dier

Having been used in numerous positions during his time at Spurs, the Englishman has finally settled down in his defensive midfield role, as the gaffer clearly sees him as the man tasked with protecting the defence.

If the impressive young man is at the top of his game against the Reds, then Spurs will have no problem in keeping their goal shut as he snuffs out any attacks like a dog does a treat.

CM: Harry Winks

In what is a slightly more attacking role than Eric Dier, this young starlet of recent times has been tasked with running the central midfield ranks as he looks to play passes through to players in a more advanced position. Spurs enjoy a much more passing style of play so this man will be pivotal in the closing down of the opposition players as well as distributing and creating attacks.

Therefore, in what is a game between two ambitious trophy hunting sides, this man will have to be on top form if he is to withstand the pressure.

LAM: Heung Min Son

The Korean international has been brought more into the fray in recent times as they look to him as an added goal scoring outlet. With what is a very impressive goalscoring record in his time at the club, he has the potential to turn it on at any second as he finds the goal with ease.

The forward’s pace and trickery could become very pivotal in causing the oppositions defenders nightmares as he has the ability to create something out of nothing.

CAM: Christian Eriksen

The Danish superstar has been one of the top performers for the club so far this season, as his eye for goal and incredible creativity has made life working with this man a pleasure. As arguably one of the best-attacking players in the world, he is going to be one of the danger men that can unlock the Liverpool defence.

If this man turns up on the day, then only God can help the Liverpool side as he can produce destruction.

RAM: Dele Alli

The England starlet has become one of the countries hottest prospects as he reached the 20 goal mark last time out in his breakthrough season with Spurs. Having not started the season as well as he would have liked, he will be more motivated than ever to put in an impressive performance with the whole nation watching.

This man may not be in the best of touch, but on any given day he has the ability to pull it out the bag.

ST: Harry Kane

Arguably the most in-form striker on the planet right now, this superstar has notched 11 goals for the side at what is not even a quarter of the way through the season. Incredible form from the England man has left everyone admiring the destruction he has left in his wake as he looks on target for a record-breaking season.

If this man is firing at the weekend then Liverpool don’t stand a chance.
