Indeed, life in North London has been bittersweet over the month of December, with some lost ground on the surrounding teams producing somewhat of a mixed-bag for Mauricio Pochettino and his men.
However, after picking up a 5-2 win in their last game against Southampton, they’ll be high in spirits after finishing 2017 in the most dominant of fashions.
They couldn’t ask for a much easier opposition to start the new-year as they face a trip away to relegation battlers Swansea City, a side who suffered a 5-0 loss to Liverpool in one of their more recent games.
Yet, after drawing 0-0 at Wembley back in September, Swansea will be hoping to replicate something similar to this at the Liberty Stadium, but this all depends if they can keep record-breaker Harry Kane and co at bay.
Nevertheless, with Swansea looking to give their fans something to shout about in 2018, Pochettino can silence any Swans if he fields this Tottenham starting XI.
GK: Hugo Lloris
Although he did let in 2 goals in their last game against Southampton, the Frenchman has been a pivotal part of their rise in the Champions League and domestically.
As one of the Premier League’s best shot-stoppers, Pochettino will be hoping he can start the New Year with a clean-sheet.
RB: Serge Aurier
The Ivorian defender has been impressive in recent times after struggling to adjust to the Premier League in his early days, with his pace, strength and crossing abilities causing problems for the opposition defenders.
As a defensive rock int he right-back position, Pochettino will continue to call upon his services moving forward.
CB: Jan Vertonghen
The Belgian defender has been ever-present in the sides rise in recent years, with his defensive abilities and experience of great importance to the club as they struggle to win without him.
Mauricio Pochettino looks up to this man to lead by example in the defensive areas, and will continue to for the foreseeable future.
CB: Davinson Sanchez
After slapping a £42 million price-tag on the youngster when buying him from Dutch side Ajax he had a lot to live up to, but since joining in the summer he’s already settled down to become a crucial part of the defence.
With Toby Alderweireld out of the side the Colombian has stepped up at the time his boss needed him to the most, so will continue to establish himself in the starting line-up from here on in.
LB: Danny Rose
Danny Rose is the perfect example of a football professional, even after all the speculation that surrounds him and his future, combined with the disagreement he had with Mauricio Pochettino, he still manages to give his all for the club.
Although they haven’t got off on the best of terms this campaign, Pochettnio sees him as an integral part to his sides success moving forward.
CM: Eric Dier
The brick wall that is Eric Dier does his job magnificently in a more defensive role to his midfield partner, as one of the best interceptors and tackling geniuses of the game.
On any given day the Lilywhites will struggle to keep a clean-sheet if this man and his versatility isn’t in their line-up.
CM: Moussa Sissoko
Many fans were calling for his head back at the start of the season, but his recent fine run of form has seen him become a crucial part of their central-midfield.
His darting bursts forward into attacking positions to support, and his tracking back into the defensive half are what makes him so important to the side.
After putting in a decent performance off the bench last time out he’ll be looking to carry this form through to the New Year.
RAM: Dele Alli
Dele Alli continues to establish himself as England’s hottest prospect with goals and assists ever-present in the attackers play.
After scoring one and providing two assists in their 5-2 win over Southampton, it just goes to highlight his importance in the attacking third with Harry Kane’s dominance mainly down to the service of the youngster.
A player who Pochettino believes can become one of the world’s best.
CAM: Christian Eriksen
Although he’s been one of the players criticized for some poor performances over the festive period, he soon put the criticism to rest as he provided for the opening goal of the game in their last outing.
On his day he has the ability to tear apart any defence with his array of dribbling abilities, trickery and incredible composure in-front of goal.
A crucial part of the Argentine’s forward-four.
LAM: Heung Min-Son
After being left out for much of the start that Spurs made to their current campaign, his ability to score goals in the absence of some of their star men has seen him play a pivotal part in their recent success.
Indeed, after netting once and providing two assists in the thrashing of Southampton at Wembley, he continues to put in performances of the highest order.
ST: Harry Kane
The most prolific player in the whole of world football in 2017 has enjoyed the best year of his career, on his way to breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League calendar year record of 36 goals with a hat-trick against Southampton.
For a player that has broken the records and scored the amount of goals that Harry Kane has, there’s no doubt he’d fit into any team in the world with the way he’s playing at the moment.
