Spurs continued their push for the top-four with an impressive win over Watford this weekend, and their supporters here in the Tavern were certainly impressed with the way their team applied themselves against the Hornets!
Harry Kane and Dele Alli were the two stars of the show, both scoring twice as Spurs stormed to a 4-1 victory against a Watford side that really weren’t at the races.
Whilst the signs were slightly concerning for all involved at Vicarage Road, for Spurs fans, it’s another cracking result against a team that had, up to this point, been performing very well indeed.
They repeated this feat against Chelsea in mid-week, with a 2-0 victory against the league leaders proving that Pochettino’s men still have a chance at title glory this season.
But next up for Spurs is a game against Aston Villa in the FA Cup, which will no easy task in the slightest. Steve Bruce’s side are certainly on the up in the Championship and after a tough start to the campaign, things are definitely improving.
But how should Pochettino line up his troops for the game?
With some help from our trusty Spurs locals, here’s our Spurs XI that we will definitely beat Aston Villa in the FA Cup this weekend…
GK: Michel Vorm
The FA Cup will give manager Mauricio Pochettino a fantastic excuse to give some of his second-string players a run-out and starting us off here is former Swansea City man Michel Vorm.
The Dutchman has had to settle for a place on the bench more often than not these days but with Hugo Lloris in the first-team, that’s not likely to change anytime soon.
A good performance would definitely go some way as to helping his chances of breaking into the first-team though.
RB: Kieran Trippier
Kieran Trippier was fantastic in the win over Watford and we’d like to see him stay in the first-team for the game against Villa.
His attacking work was excellent, whilst his delivery for the second Spurs goal was fantastic as well. Spurs fans in the Tavern are excited about his continued development.
CB: Kevin Wimmer
Kevin Wimmer has been involved in first-team affairs a lot more in recent weeks due to injuries and he’s performed admirably when given the nod by his manager.
The Austrian has had to bide his time for first-team minutes but it’s good to see the youngster being thrown in at the deep end.
CB: Cameron Carter-Vickers
American U23 international Cameron Carter-Vickers is one of the most exciting prospects around and he featured in the 2-1 EFL Cup loss defeat to Liverpool but played very well indeed.
He stood up to a tricky Liverpool forward line and certainly looks like a player that could be involved in the first-team in the months to come.
LB: Ben Davies
Welsh international Ben Davies is another pro who hasn’t been guaranteed game time in this Spurs side this season but like a lot of individuals in this line-up, he’s worked hard to continue to prove himself to manager Mauricio Pochettino.
He’s popular here amongst the locals for his willingness to continue to push for the first-team and he’s our pick for the game against Villa.
CDM: Eric Dier
Eric Dier is arguably one of the senior players in this squad despite not being on the books at White Hart Lane for long at all.
The England international does a good job filling in at both centre-back and in midfield and he should have more than enough quality to cut out the threat posed by the Aston Villa side.
CDM: Harry Winks
20-year-old midfielder Harry Winks is enjoying one of his best seasons since coming through the Spurs academy and it seems that manager Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the youngster.
His performances are improving week by week. This will be a good test for Winks, especially if he is given the nod from the start.
RM: Josh Onomah
Another Spurs academy graduate who is making waves in the first-team setup is winger Josh Onomah, who has impressed when given the nod by Pochettino this season.
He’s a pacy customer who can play in behind the striker or on the wing and the key to his development from here will be getting minutes on the pitch.
CAM: Tom Carroll
He might not be the most attacking of midfield players but bringing young midfielder Tom Carroll into the first-team would be another good move by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
He’s one of the Spurs players who will be ready for first team action sooner rather than later so this would be a game he will really want to perform well if given the nod.
LM: Georges N’Koudou
Georges NKoudou has had to bide his time since making the move from Marseille this summer, where he had a prominent role in the side last time out. At just 21-years-old, he has plenty of time to continue his development and he’ll have to really perform in games like these.
He’ll be up against some decent Villa full-backs and will have to be on his game to really help his side to victory on the night.
ST: Vincent Janssen
The punters leaning on the bar don’t seem to be the biggest fans of Vincent Janssen and you can understand why – he’s not had the easiest of starts in his Tottenham career.
Signed as a player to really understudy hot-shot striker Harry Kane, he struggled to hit the back of the net when given the chance earlier this season and he must start scoring goals if he’s to have a chance of making it at White Hart Lane.
