The Spurs fans in the Tavern are hoping that following an unbeaten run in December, which began with a 5-0 demolition of Swansea, Tottenham can continue this good form against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are riding high in the Premier League and the Argentine is fully focussed on a top 4 finish, securing another year in the Champions League.

Spurs have tough games against West Brom and Man City in the coming weeks and it is very likely Pochettino will rest key players against Villa, who are currently mid-table in the Championship.

This FA Cup tie could prove tricky for Steve Bruce, who is targeting promotion to the Premier League, as he can ill-afford an extended campaign in the cup competition potentially fatiguing an already troubled squad.

The Spurs manager deploys a high pressing, attacking style of football which, on their day, can overwhelm any team in the world and the Villains may well struggle with the pace that ‘Poch’ sets.

The Landlord at the Tavern believes Tottenham finally have a squad of players capable of challenging on multiple fronts blessed with experienced internationals, future stars and academy graduates and in the next few years they will be the team to watch.

So, with that in mind, Tottenham should field this XI on Sunday.

GK: MICHEL VORM

The former Swansea stopper will be eager to get a rare start and prove his worth to the team.

Michel Vorm has been capped 15 times by Holland and won the League Cup in 2013.

RB: KIERON TRIPPIER

Whilst Kyle Walker is the first choice right-back, here in the Tavern we believe Mauricio Pochettino sees Trippier as a ‘cup team’ player and should start.

Trippier is the same age as Kyle Walker and recently put in an eye-catching performance against Watford.

CB: KEVIN WIMMER

The big Austrian is still finding his feet at Spurs and should find the lowly forward line of Aston Villa easy pickings.

At 24, Wimmer is still developing and could become a key figure at Spurs in years to come.

CB: JAN VERTONGHEN

The towering Belgian defender should deputise for Hugo Lloris as captain, providing leadership to the relatively inexperienced backline.

Jan Vertonghen is reaching the peak playing age of 29 and is already a key player at Spurs.

LB: BEN DAVIES

The Welsh international will be raring to go for this fixture and underline his quality to the team.

Danny Rose is the number one left-back at Spurs and its cup games like this where Ben Davies will be hoping to challenge for the full-back spot.

CDM: HARRY WINKS

Hot prospect and lifelong Spurs fan Harry Winks has impressed off the bench this season in the Premier League and looks set to become a future star.

Winks is a product of the Tottenham youth academy and has represented England at all levels up to Under 21.

CDM: MOUSA DEMBELE

The Belgian international is blessed with incredible passing ability and contributes hugely to the defensive side of Spurs’ tactics.

Dembele’s chances have been a little more limited this season due to the presence of Victor Wanyama and the form of Christian Eriksen, though is a huge part of Pochettino’s side.

CAM: JOSH ONOMAH

Another product of the Tottenham youth system who, like Harry Winks, appears set to become a future star at Spurs.

Although his appearances have been limited in the league this season the punters in the Tavern are convinced he will make the grade.

RAM: MOUSSA SISSOKO

Moussa Sissoko was one of the key summer signings for Spurs and adds power and energy to the Tottenham midfield.

It is well documented that Poch demands more from the French star and if Sissoko can recapture the form he showed at Newcastle, then he might just win over the manager again.

LAM: GEORGES-KEVIN N’KOUDOU

The French Under-21 star joined Spurs in August and has shown glimpses of his quality off the bench and in the League Cup.

At 21, N’Koudou has the potential to become a real star and ‘Poch’ will surely look to give him valuable playing time in the FA Cup.

CF: VINCENT JANSSEN

Vincent Janssen has struggled to make an impact at Spurs this season but has shown promise in the League Cup, scoring twice.

At 22 Janssen is an exciting prospect at Tottenham who needs to find his feet in the Premier League; a start against Aston Villa could re-ignite his season.
