4-2-3-1.. Is this XI how Mourinho’s Man Utd can get the best out of Paul Pogba?

The Red Devils at the Football Transfer Tavern have been raving about the thought of having Paul Pogba back in their side.

It seems pretty certain that he is going to be moving back to Old Trafford, but the talk of the tavern is how to get the best out of the man who is likely to become the most expensive player in world football.

Manchester United have already made some great signings and so will have an abundance of talent, and it has been asked what formation and players would help to get the best out of him.

The landlord writes how a 4-2-3-1 formation will help Paul Pogba to perform at his best for United and help them to reach the top of the Premier League table.

Goalkeeper- David De Gea

David De Geavdsa

David De Gea has been one of Manchester United’s best players in what has been a bit of a miserable time for the club.

Now that things seem to be looking up, he will be thriving on the prospect of fighting for the league title and working with the calibre of player that is coming into the squad.

He will still be a vital player for the team as he always seems to be able to make the save needed at the most vital moments.

Right Back- Antonio Valencia

Antonio ValenciaAntonio Valencia

With the level of attacking quality the team has, Valencia will be likely to come in at right back.

He is solid defensively and is strong and quick which should help him in his new role.

As well as that, he will be able to get up and down the pitch and with Mkhitaryan likely to cut in from the right wing, he could be very effective on the overlap.

Centre Back- Chris Smalling

Smalling

He has been Manchester United’s most consistent defender over the last couple of years and under Mourinho will probably improve even more.

He will look to be a dominating figure in the centre of the defence and will look to be the leader under the new manager.

As well as that he is good on the ball and will be able to quickly move the ball to the likes of Pogba to start up attacks.

Centre Back- Eric Bailly

The man signed from Villarreal is likely to go straight into the side for United and will be used to tighten up a defence that looked weak at times last season.

He has already shown that he can play against Premier League opposition when he performed well against Liverpool in the Europa League so he should be able to slot in easily and get off to a good start.

Left Back- Luke Shaw

Shaw2

The attacking left back played really well last season before picking up that unfortunate injury against PSV Eindhoven, and will look to continue from where he was before.

He has had a tough time since joining Manchester United, but he will look to put all that behind him and kick on now.

Don’t be surprised if he becomes a permanent feature in the starting XI for both his club and country this season.

Centre Midfielder – Paul Pogba

pogbamklopi

Pogba will be in one of the holding places but will do anything but hold.

Having a partner alongside him in the deep lying role will allow the Frenchman to take the ball from deep and drive forward with it to begin attacks and open up the play.

He is likely to be involved in a lot of the link up play and will offer a lot of excitement for fans at Old Trafford.

Centre Midfielder – Michael Carrick

carrick

He will be willing to sit and play the ball from there and break up play if the Red Devils lose possession.

This will allow Pogba to move forward and have more freedom to impact the game in a way that would benefit the team.

Carrick will also be able to use his passing variety to bring the other attacking players into the game.

He can also be the man to get a game under control and calm things down a bit if the game gets too open.

Right Winger – Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Mkhitaryan

Mkhitaryan can play in a central role or on the wing and with Mourinho stating that Rooney will not play deep, the Armenian is likely to be pushed out to the right wing.

He will probably come inside a little bit and link up with the players like Pogba and Ibrahimovic to create attacks and hurt the opposition.

He could also build up a good partnership with Valencia who can be expected to be seen running down the wings supporting him.

Attacking Midfielder – Wayne Rooney

Rooney may not primarily be a striker anymore, however he is still a big attacking threat.

Behind Ibrahimovic, in the middle of two talented wingers and in front of Pogba he will be able to link all of them together with his quick short passes and be central to attacks that will hurt the opposition.

He also has the skill to score goals from inside the box or from long range.

Left Winger – Anthony Martial

martial22

The Frenchman had a brilliant first season at Manchester United and will be looking to do even better this time around.

With his fellow countryman, Paul Pogba behind him playing balls behind the opposition defence, he will be able to use his pace to get behind the opposition and cut in to score in his trademark fashion.

He will also be able to put in some great balls for Ibrahimovic and the other attacking players in the side, earning himself some assists as well.

Striker – Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan will be the figurehead of the Manchester United attack and with a man like this up top, it is safe to say that the defenders will be occupied.

The opposition could be overly focused on him at times, which could give his team mates space to exploit.

As well as this, he is likely to score a lot of goals and will always offer options for the defenders and midfielders to play the ball into him.
