Well then, Manchester United well and truly threw a spanner in the title race last weekend and our resident Red Devils in the Transfer Tavern loved every minute of it.

Boss, Jose Mourinho did the ultimate job on his former club, Chelsea, and although the Blues look more than comfortable at the top of the table – their lead over second place, Spurs, has been narrowed down to four points.

The win also helped United in their pursuit of fourth spot in the Premier League but with that said, many of our United punters believe that Mourinho’s men should be looking to win the Europa League and bring another trophy to Old Trafford alongside Champions League football next season.

Our landlord agrees and that is why when devising the XI to take on Burnley this weekend, he has looked at which players may be rested especially after United play on Thursday against Anderlecht and with the Manchester derby coming up in the week.

However, with that said, the Red Devils cannot expect an easy ride at Turf Moore – especially following the Clarets battling performance in the reverse fixture in which they came away with a 0-0 draw.

So with maybe not the most straightforward fixture as it seems, our landlord has noted down the United XI he expects to take the field come Sunday.

GK: David De Gea

An outstanding asset to the club, De Gea has been one of United’s stand out players for the last couple seasons and has again played a mighty role this season.

With whispers occurring every summer, in the Tavern, of the Spaniard moving to Real Madrid – our resident Red Devils will again be praying their goalkeeper stays at Old Trafford.

RB: Antonio Valencia

Arguably second to Zlatan Ibrahimovic as United’s best player this season, our landlord has gone as far to say that Valencia could be considered up with the best right-backs in the Premier League this season.

Our resident United fans in the Tavern agree and have been raising their glasses to the form of the Ecuadorian.

CB: Eric Bailly

As United took a while to gel as a whole this season, Bailly suffered with some indifferent form. However, the former Villarreal man has seemed to have put in the performances that justify his price tag since.

After Jose Mourinho lavished praise on his performance against Chelsea last week, the onus will be on the 23-year-old to prove consistent here against Burnley.

CB: Marcos Rojo

The Argentine has made a real difference at United this season and has finally found his feet under Jose Mourinho with the manager praising his performance against Chelsea last weekend.

Although the Red Devils are experiencing a minor fixture pile up at this point in the season, our landlord believes Rojo is simply too valuable to be rested at this stage.

LB: Daley Blind

With Matteo Darmian playing in this position in recent weeks, our landlord believes Mourinho may rest the Italian and give Daley Blind a chance at left-back.

Our resident United punters are screaming for England left-back, Luke Shaw to have a run out in this one but with rotation the name of the game at this stage, Blind could get the nod.

CDM: Ander Herrera

A player with a great attitude, Herrera has stole the hearts of our resident United fans in the Transfer Tavern of late with his workmanlike performances.

The Spaniard was exceptional against Chelsea last time out, redeeming himself from the red card he received when the same opponents knocked his side out of the FA Cup.

CDM: Marouane Fellaini

A player that really does divide opinion, our landlord believes the Belgian will start for Mourinho’s men at Turf Moore this weekend.

Although the subject of many jokes, there is no doubt Fellaini brings a different dimension to United’s game and a real physical presence to the centre of the park.

RAM: Jesse Lingard

Though the England international may find himself in a more advanced role, our landlord believes Lingard’s main responsibility will be to play on the right side of midfield against Burnley.

Lingard’s movement was exceptional against Chelsea and his work rate really stands out to the United fans in the Tavern.

CAM: Paul Pogba

Our landlord believes Pogba will be employed in a further advanced role at Turf Moor where he can really influence the game rather than the deeper role he has played this season.

Though he has received a lot of criticism, the Frenchman has not done a lot wrong and with a bit more of a contribution in the final third of the pitch, United fans can be excited about the future of the talented midfielder..

LAM: Ashley Young

In a game which may need experience to be unlocked, Ashley Young has the nous in these type of fixtures making him a surefire pick for the weekend.

Captain last week, our landlord believes Young may again lead out the Red Devils in this one.

ST: Marcus Rashford

With United having played on Thursday and then against next Thursday, our landlord believes Mourinho will manage top scorer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s work load which will mean the talented, Marcus Rashford gets a run out at Turf Moor.

Having grabbed a goal against Chelsea, our resident United fans in the Tavern are licking their lips at the prospect of their teenage superstar terrorising Burnley’s defence come Sunday.
